My issue is that I simply can't just suck it up. Being a college student, I work hard but I don't have the time to have a full time job to be able to save enough to get a remanufactured unit. That's what happened last year, that's why I got a rebuilt unit instead of a new one. I simply don't have the money.

Another thing to consider is a low mileage used one. I found one off an '04 with 35,000 miles for less than $500. Both ends had the proper amount of oil, however I went ahead and replaced it, since I already had it apart. As a matter of fact I think someone is selling one on here off a JCW car with 68k on it for $325. Heck of a deal if it is in good shape...

Gizmo - Can you tally up how much will it cost to get your SC with a reman or used. May be some of us can pitch in to help your burden.

It won't be much but I will help.

I appreciate the kind gesture but I always feel weird getting money from people. I'll make it work somehow and be fine.

I called Sean at Imperial MINI and he is going to be making me a recharger kit for my supercharger. For those of you who were at MOTD last year, you may remember his vendor stand he had set up. I'm waiting for an invoice of the exact cost but it will be between $200-$300.

So this why I can periodically check the oil and change it. For the cost, this seems like a good compromise to trying to sell the rebuilt one and get another from a different place.

Sean said it will be shipped out next week, so hopefully by next weekend my car will be running again.

I do 8.5x11 watercolor paintings of people's MINIs but those are around $100. Maybe I could do a single design of a mini/MA related 5x7 or so painting or screen print. So if you pay $20 I can mail you one of the paintings/prints.

I really can't just accept money, I need to give something in return.

[email protected] is my Paypal. Please include your mailing address, the prints are the least I can do to say thank you. This really means a lot.

Dude, don't spend your money on half measures. Your rebuilt supercharger will fail again, regardless of how often you change the oil. Put that money in the bank for a new one! Better yet, spend it on some dress clothes to get a good summer job.

You really need to follow BThayer23's suggestion.... The oil kit isn't going to do much for you if the rebuilt SC is not assembled correctly.... It's called throwing money down a rat hole.... You will be farther ahead if you save up for a better unit....

Saving in the summer to buy a new one would be ideal but I need my car, this is my DD. The rebuilt one was mailed Monday and my mechanic is going to inspect it for me. He is more than qualified to do so in the work he does. With the recharger, I can check the oil level, which was what caused the gears to grind down because there was no oil. This will at least get me into the summer so I can save up and buy a remanufactured one or new one. Unfortunately time is against me because I can't use the loaner car forever and keep my car at the show for several months. The other ones that Helix have installed haven't had issues, I had the luck of the bad one in the bunch.

Thank you all for helping out, I really don't know what to say because I am overwhelmed by the generosity.

Again, the least I can do is sent a print as a thank you. So if you do want one, please let me know.

    Here is the design
