2014 will mark the 55th anniversary of the Mini, and to celebrate this icon of the automotive world, a very special tribute race weekend will be held at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio. In the spirit of the event, only classic race-prepared Minis and Mini-powered variants will be accepted. Cars with a log book issued by a recognized vintage racing organization or SCCA will be accepted, providing the SVRA safety requirements are met (visit the "Event Info" page for more details). Additionally, cars must retain an 'A'-series engine and be well presented. It's about a year away as I write this and the entry list is already pretty darn huge... Entry List More on the event can be found at CanAm Mini Challenge 2014
I'm going to guess the featured marquis will be Mini/MINI again. It was a great event last time and this time I get to join in. Not the race just the show.
Last time the participation was really low. With the number of entrants listed this should be a don't miss it race weekend for sure.
Thanks Nathan for sharing the info with everyone. We're looking forward to our trip to Mid Ohio! I'm sure there'll be a strong contingent of M/A folks that will come out and take in the festivities. Everyone's welcome to drop by to say hello and share in a cold one... :beer
What if we MoMers through in a little cash and sponsor something? Maybe some kind of trophy for something really off the wall.
I can't wait for this event. The COMO ( Central Ohio Mini Owners ) club will be a gold sponsor. We will be helping out the racers by giving away certificates and visa gift card to help will all of the expenses. We will have a pop up with a table setup near the racers so come and say high. We are also looking at a special hand built trophy.
Maybe we should start thinking about your idea. What about a Mini/MINI event at Bucks on either Friday or Saturday night. It looks like they have a big event room.
I'm a bit surprised at the few replies to this event post. I became a member of the Tar Heels Mini club, in NC, after our '07 mcs was bought. Living very near "the snake" in E. TN has made for miles of smiles. Our 2011mcs spice orange has the body color all over the bottom. My son & I will be there & will meet my brother there also. I often yearn for the '64 mcs I bought before going on active duty, since mom sold it, while I was gone. I hope to say Hi to FIREBRO17 & check in w/COMO's.
There is a bit more discussion in this thread. http://www.motoringalliance.com/forums/mid-ohio-motoring/22011-mid-ohio-vintage-race-weekend.html#axzz35b1wu1gv
Great to be able to put faces to names today. Thanks for coming out in support of all the Mini folks this weekend! Hope to be able to share some more time tomorrow and Sunday.
