Was walking by here today. Manager saw me and knows me from their other place. She gave me the nickel tour. Right nice place. What a change from the last folks.
Made the steel structure that separates the kitchen staff from the main portion of the restaurant... The glass panels allow the customers to watch the chef working... Here is a little blurb on the spot... New Northstar Cafe Concept Brassica to Occupy Old Betty’s Space | ColumbusUnderground.com
My custom made brass door pulls will get installed tomorrow... I did a quick detail to get rid of the tarnish they collected sitting around in my shop waiting for the day the general contractor would get the new doors installed...
Happened to walk into the shop while those brass pulls were being polished. Was difficult not to touch them and leave my mark.
The GC finally got this baby installed yesterday.... The owner is worried someone will try and remove it and sell it for scrap.... I told him not to worry.... If I can make one, I surely can make a second one....
Brass is very important to this place, a play on the name "Brassica", which really has to do with vegetables related to the mustard family... When looking for fasteners in brass, there isn't much available... I went with brass binding screws with the dome towards the street, and they penetrate through the entire solid core door.... I'm pretty sure you would need to pull it off with a chain attached to a trailer hitch... The front door pull has 16 of these babies... I've been known to over engineer this stuff...
Ahhhh.......brass sex bolts! As long as the door is locked I don't see how they could get it off short of breaking the window or taking the entire door...... Do they make brass security screws for the inside? Not that you need them.....
I'll be making door push plates out of some really attractive brushed finished brass sheet that will cover up the screwhead pattern on the inside surfaces of both entry doors..... So the nefarious person would first need to remove the push plates in order to get to the binding bolt screws....
A whole lotta change has taken place as the GC nears completion.... The cleanup crew has hit the place, a little bit of paint and electrical work needs to be done and art hung... I ended up providing all of the custom metal work.... They liked my work and want my involvement at two new locations... One will be here locally and the second location will be near Cincinnati... I'm having a real busy year.... Here's some pictures of my visit today...
Both of those are like potato chips... You can never have just one! With your work Chuck, I bet the place will be crowded just due to the atmosphere on opening day. Really good top notch work to compliment a great layout and design.
