I'm not sure why there is such animosity between the different generations of Miata owners. I'm guessing most of the hate regarding the ND seems to revolve around the styling and maybe optioning. Otherwise, the ND is almost identical to the original NA in nearly every aspect (which I imagine is difficult considering the original is nearly 25 years old.) I can only imagine what the Mini arguments between R53 owners and the 2027 Mini Cooper S will be like. lol The Fiata is pretty interesting. I believe they both will be made in Hiroshima, but the drivetrain is Italian. I'm curious of it's long-term reliability. The turbo will probably be easier to tune, but it looks like there are some nice gains to be made with the SkyActiv system.
Stupid Miata owners.... Sure am glad us MINI / Mini aren't afflicted with these hateful immature issues.... The R56 is the best MINI...
Haha. The 2026 Mini Cooper S JCW GP will be the best Mini ever. Just you watch. Having driven the NA Miata (learned to drive on one in Hawaii), owning a R53, and just recently purchasing a ND, I find them all fun to drive.
So the Fiat turbo 1.4 Multiair is made in Termoli, east of Rome. Sent to Japan where it's inserted into a modified bodied MX5 and with final assembly in Hiroshima Japan. Next to the turbo heat shield on the underside of the hood is this.... Which leads me to ask the age old question..... That thing got a HEMI init?
One thing I am curious about the Alfa Romeo 4C, is why does it weigh more than the Miata/Fiata? It uses hefty amounts of carbon fiber, which I assume is stronger and lighter than a car of mostly aluminum and steel construction. Maybe it's because of the power train and roof?
I dont think this is happening, but a man can dream. When I was younger, my dad owned a beautiful FD RX7, but had to get rid of it when my brother was born. He still talks about that car to this day (to the disdain of my now adult brother :biggrin5:.) Apparently, the Miata lost to the Camaro for MotorTrend's 2015 COTY in a 5-4 vote.
The 4c spyder, without the roof, actually weighs slightly more than the coupe. The main culprit? Taking a European designed car, and modifying it to meet U.S. regulations. To the tune of adding 342 pounds. The European spec 4c is lighter than a Miata. Mazda did it right, and had the U.S. cleanly in it's sights when it built the new Mazda. Alfa didn't.
