Pretty damn impressive qually for HAAS, at least for Grosjean - Kmag has some work to do.

The rest are pretty much where I expected them, except for Ricky Racer.....unusual for him to crash out like that. I'm thinking we may see some of that in the race too.

Kudos to both Toro Rosso guys for getting into Q3 again.

I'm guessing Ricciardo's off was partly a result of him trying hard to impress the home crowd.

All seems right with the F1 world today. I know it's a long season but I'm already predicting that Monza in early September is going to be NUTS.

    Ferrari's pit strategy was huge.

No question, Ferrari made the right call and it clearly paid off.....and good for them - Sea Bass was a popular winner down unda......

One thing was interesting to me, on fresh tires right out of the box, the Hamster (who is a consummate pass artist) said there was "no way he could get around this guy", meaning Verstappen. If one of the best passers on the track can't get around someone on fresh tires.......it doesn't bode well for a close racing season. Rather, the front runner will go out in clean air and the rest will parade around after him....just the way Vettel did it to win his four championships and Lewis did his with MBZ.

One interesting other thing, Vettel clearly enjoyed his race (I'm sure largely in part to being in front!) but he said he could have gone on all afternoon. Sort of belies the comments about how hard these cars were to drive and what physical demands they would make on the drivers.....

Too bad about the Haas cars both going out of the race after such a good qually effort. There is more to come from these guys....

    Great job by Ocon!

Kudos also to Force India and Toro Rosso for getting both their cars in the top 10.

Congrats to Vettel & Ferrari for a good win. Great pit strategy.

I think we may have an interesting year in F1. Looks tough to pass this year, but Ocon showed us it can be done with a banzai move. :arf:

On to China, I hope for some closer racing. :fingerscrossed:

I remember generally thinking along this line at the time. Clearly the best tweet of the day.

Looks like we're going to have good racing this year. Ferrari and Vettel start the year off right.

Hammy said during testing that he didn't think passing was going to be any easier this year. But others disagreed with him. So maybe it just the Merc. I can understand that being how they have been upfront for the last fee years. Maybe the designers thought they didn't need to think about that. :D

When they talked to Max Verstappen after the race he said he could only get within 2 seconds of Kimi before the aero came off his car. So I don't believe it is only the Merc's with that trouble. Seems like one has to get in front & stay in front. Great pit strategy won the race yesterday. Vettle helped a bit too.

I'm a Lewis fan, but was happy to see Vettel take a win. This season should be good.

Kind of like Vettel last year whining about some backmarker who wouldn't get out of his way.

Two things I am disappointed in so far this year.

1 How could Honda f-up so badly on the engine? In the last turbo era they where the engine to have. Their production motors are great and reliable. But when it comes to F1 they can't seem to get it right anymore.

2 I really expected more from a new Red Bull car design. Adrian Newey is still the best designer in the sport. But it looks like the car is incomplete compared to the others.
