Current Summer tires have tread left. This would be their 4th summer. I fear they are just going to be dead due to time anyway, so time to start thinking about what is next. Direzza ZII Star Spec 215/40-17 is my thought. Comments, Suggestions?
Those seem to be the tire to get. They are my next set for sure. I am running the 215/45 to get a bit more width with a bit more height. Fills in the wheel wells real nice.
Well you know I love them. For the money they are the best bang for the buck over any Michelin pilots and you drive just like I do. I have had the original Star Specs and they were awesome. Next I ordered the DZ II's and ran them last year and will be running them this year. The new DZ II "Star Specs" are getting great reviews and Dunlop keeps improving an excellent street tire that is the the tire of choice by autocross and track guys that can not run R Comps.
I've been reviewing tires for 3 days. I've even talked with Tire Rack. I run 215/40 18 on my Coupe and Dunlop doesn't make these in that size. The g-force TA KDW2's that I have been running are discontinued. I've even looked at DOT competition tires but nothing in my size. I need help too!
Fixed it for ya :donut1: I've been perusing wheel sites too.... Ahh, spring time is soon, when a middle aged man fancy's new wheels and tires...
Here you go Mark. Only 15.5 pounds each. I know a dealer so I got them cheaper than retail list. I am sure you can also. http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/WheelCloseUpServlet?target=runWheelSearch&initialPartNumber=4607704938B&wheelMake=Enkei+Racing&wheelModel=PF01&wheelFinish=Black+Painted&showRear=no&autoMake=MINI&autoModel=Coupe&autoYear=2012&autoModClar=John+Cooper+Works&filterFinish=Black&filterSize=17&filterBrand=Enkei+Racing&filterSpecial=false&filterNew=All&filterWeight=All&sort=Brand
I need new summer tires too and I was set on getting the pilot sport AS 3 until I saw this. What are the major pros and cons between the two?
Grip grip and grip the dunlop has the best Summer tires for the money. All season tires are really meh at any season and not any good in real winter areas that get really cold and snow. That's why we also run dedicated winter snow tires. No one tire will do all 4 seasons well.
Nathan I have the Bridgestone RE-11A's in 215/45/17. Great tire in the wet as well and quieter than the Dunlops as your mileage builds. But having driven both, you really can't make a bad decision with either one.
Not near a computer to confirm, but seem to recall that Michelin Pilot Super Sports were less expensive the last time I priced tires. I do know that the Michelins have a 30K mile warranty. Don't believe the Dunlops do.
I do run winter tires so I don't need 4 season. But I am willing to give up some grip to be able to drive them earlier in the spring and later into the fall
Nooooo the Michelins are not in the same class, they are max Summer performance tires. The Dunlops are the Extreme Summer Only tires and the people that buy them don't care about a tread ware warranty. If you get 30K out of a pilot super sports you must be diving in a school zone all the time and never making any hard turns. (What fun is that)
Anybody have any info on the new Bridgestone RE-71R. Tread looks a bit Direzza-like. Tire Rack is offering them as available in early March. They come in 205/50/16, 205/55/16, 205/45/17 and 215/45/17 + others. http://en.responsejp.com/article/2014/12/08/239192.html
Those just look FUN... I've been told by a birdy from the Akron area that they are awesome in the dry, acceptable in the damp and well, "interesting" in the wet.
Nathan just buy what you know since you made a set of Star Specs last 4 years. I mean that's 2 years longer than me and we both drive about the same amount a year and really push the tires at the Dragon.
