Gas / Exhaust smell when idling

Hey everyone. I have a question for fellow Clubman owners: I drive a 2009 MINI Cooper Clubman with 47,xxx miles. One this I noticed was after driving the car, when I stop at a street light and am idling, I can smell unburned gas coming in through the vents. I do not smell it when I am driving.

A non BMW/MINI service center checked the car out today and said there are no leaks in the exhaust nor are there any gas leaks. Everything is a-ok. He [the service department guy] also said that I was pulling the air from the outside instead of from circulating within the car. The Clubman pulls air not only from below the windshield but underneath as well. If I adjust the air flow to circulate through the car, the smell does seem to diminish a bit.

Is this common / do any fellow Clubman owners experience this or have any suggestions?

Thanks!

Before your MINI warranty expires I would take it by MINI dealer in Hartford ? and have them take a look.
Crashton and Jason Montague like this.

I had a distinct smell in mine too, they replaced the PCV hose and I still get it but it's rare now.

I guess the lesson learned is always take your car to a MINI dealer. . . there was a leak in the gas line. Should have the car back tomorrow in a much safer condition.

Only as long as you have factory warranty, then find a good independent shop, local club should know of some.
