I recently bought a 2008 clubman s. What mods are the best bang for the buck? I plan on suspension and lighter wheels but what about ecu tuning? I want to make her a cone killer for the most part.

Welcome to M/A!! My name is Lance, and I am going to escort you through the ins and outs of modifying your Clubbie. Since you're planning on killing cones, might I suggest no mods at all, and instead just driving all out with your eyes closed and pointing the vehicle straight ahead; that'll ensure the most number of cones are hit. Also, don't deviate from the plan should one or more cones get lodged under your car. They'll burn off eventually, and hopefully not take your car with them in a fireball of glory.

    Thanks
Ah will you wear a cone costume for halloween? See if I can hit the apex or cut it too close. Never wide.

I would, but in orange I tend to be more pumpkin shaped. Tell you what: I'll put a can of Pepsi on my head, and your job is to snatch it.

I tend to be one of the MA smart mouths...I think we will get along great! If Pepsi doesn't work for you though, we can change it out for something else.

Anyway, seriously welcome. I love the Clubbies....looking forward to seeing what you have planned for this thing!

Since its that time of year, how about some octoberfest beers? Lol

I want to keep it simple but functional. Suspension mods in mind are springs to get her a little lower (not that ugly stance crap). Thicker sway bars and maybe a front strut bar to stiffen up slightly. Then its onro lighter wheels than the stock 22lbs. I was thinking konig feathers which are around 16 or 17 lbs. Then engine for now will be to make everything breath easier. Maybe an ecu tune. Down the road maybe a turbo upgrade but not for awhile.

Do you have any recommendations? I had a h&r cupkit on my 01 bmw I replaced. I have coilovers on my 92 bmw (more of a toy/beater). I have a shop where ill be doing it all myself. And if I cant, I have employees who will lol.

One thing I have found through getting to know these guys is that these cars can probably outdrive us. I have enough training and experience to get myself into plenty of trouble, but I have never felt more comfortable in letting the car hit that limit than in the Minis I have driven. I don't own one yet (my car handles decent and is fairly fast, but it lacks the magic the Mini seems to have), but through driving many of them I have definitely been able to figure what I do want and what I don't want. You're going to have a blast in your Clubman. PICTURES!!!

Oktoberfest beers it is. But no, I won't be wearing a St. Pauli Girl outfit (it's not the dress that scares me, nor the unshaven legs. It's the fact that my bald head won't braid like that).

I am already having a blast in the clubby. Some think I downgraded from my bmw but they never drove a mini to understand it was an upgrade. I'm not even disappointed with it being automatic (I was skeptical at first). But I was able to hang right with an 06 mini s on a spirited drive.

As for pics, im hoping its a nice weekend to give her a bath and find the right location to break out the dslr. Shes electric blue with black roof and rear trim. I have a place in mind that will suit her well but only if the weather plays nicely.

There's a little good in every brand, depending on your driving style, experience, etc etc etc. I had a Mustang GT with a mind blowing suspension package, extremely sticky and very wide tires, and a little something something under the hood that would beat up on cars in the twisties that normal Mustangs couldn't dream of hanging with. So it really doesn't matter what you drive, as long as you love it and drive it within the parameters for which it's built and what you know you can do.

But I fully agree with what you're saying, these cars are undeniably amazing and a complete blast to drive. Sounds like you've found a great machine.

You have a blue one. That puts you ahead of the game as blue is the fastest color.

It was a compromise with the wife. The bmw started to really nickel and dime me in the last 2 months. I had enough and started looking into fiats and minis. I found a r50 6spd manual that I liked until I scoped it out in person. It was stone chipped to hell and higher mileage. Dealer wouldnt budge at all on the price. Their loss. Im glad though. The wifey suggested looking into something with more room for our daughters who are 8 and 4. I about gave up until I had to fill in for a driver of mine. Drove by this dealer who only dealt in used bmws minis audis and the such. I stopped and looked her over. Talked to the salesman. Figured the automatic was not what I wanted so I left. Ended up driving back by later and said screw it. Im driving it before I completely write it off. Yadda Yadda Yadda shes now in my driveway. First mod was a 4" stubby antenna to get rid of the remote controlled look. Now its onto the real mods that serve better purpose.
