Well here I am in the Gen2 world. I was looking to buy a Bentley Manual for my wife 2014 R57 but it only goes to 2013. Then I released the Gen2 cars stop at 13 except the R57. What year did they switch to the N18 engine? Also what should I look out for? The car has 52k on it but I would swear it is new. It was well taken care of.

Lee I am not positive, but I believe the N18 engine came about in 2011.

Not much trouble with the N18 engines, they seem to have pan seal and front bearing seal problems (had to change them early) so watch out for that. But that could have been a part of the fact we had an early 2011, built in 2010.

Other than that pretty bullet proof, change your oil sooner rather than later.

    Thanks Don

My Mini is due a oil change so I am going to do both of them. I just need to decide what oil I am going to use in her Mini. As everyone knows I am not a Turbo fan so I will be changing the oil every 3K. I may go with Royal Purple, I thought about Amsoil but I really don't want to have to order my oil. I have thought of going with a lighter oil but there is a certain GTI own that would not let me live it down if I do.:D
