So this just happened on a lovely rainy day in NC. I was exiting off the highway and car went limp, almost stalling SES (or check engine can't remember which now) and the DSC flashing. I could a smell a bit of oil too which put me in panic mode. I was able to nurse into a shopping center parking lot across from my office.

Code reader shows P0301. I checked the oil level and all seemed ok, normal levels. I reset the code and started it back up. Just ran like **** - definitely not on all cylinders (my guess). Nat's P0301 thread scares the hell out of me.

Anything I can try before towing home (or dare I drive it 20min home)? I certainly don't like the low/zero oil pressure at idle -- although the low oil light never came on.

btw, its a 05 MCS with just over 100k.

    Thanks for any help.

coil, plugs, tmap sensors, and O2 sensors are viable options.

Don't forget to check the crank pulley. Assuming it is OEM.

coil is probably original. plugs newish looking but not certain how old.

I'll start there. and pull out the plugs which have probably 3k on them.

    Not the coil... unfortunately

Finally got to do a compression test and cylinder 1 has 0 (zero) compression, cylinder 2 135psi, cylinder 3 138psi, Cylinder 4 136Psi.

Wet test on Cylinder 1 still had zero so the head is coming off.

I'm in a similar boat except cylinder 3. Since I'm pulling the head as well, anyone have a list of things to replace while in there?

You don't want my advice. My problem was a broken intake valve spring. Saw it as soon as the valve cover came off.

To remedy I some how ordered a list of RMW goodies from Jan and a tune at HELIX on the 23rd. :D

not certain condition or milage but some suggestions

Chain tensioner, chain tensioner rails, radiator fluid, thermostat and housing. temp sensor (just b/c), head gasket, valve cover gasket and spark plug tube gaskets (4x donuts).

You might find other stuff while there.
