So...I just love chasing phantom rattles. There is a rattle from the boot area on my 09 MCS which is driving me MAD! I can't tell where it's coming from. It comes and goes or should I say intermittent. I've even have taken the tool kit and interior paneling out of the car trying to eliminate the rattle. I did notice when both rear seats are in the down position the rattle is very loud.
It sounds like either failed shock mounts or sway bar links. I've replaced the shock mounts, sway bar links, and swaybar bushings. And the rattle is still there.

Has or is anyone else dealing with this?

:cornut: This probably doesn't apply to many MINIs but in Margi(08 R56 BRG MCS/JCWm) the rattle is the spare tire that I carry in the boot. I secured it in place and rattle gone.

Check the two rubber bump stops on the rear hatch.... They may have compressed and simply need a quarter turn out. This might tighten up the fit if its the latch / loop that's jumping around... Quick and easy if it's this....

I'll check those. I went as far as compared the Justa and MCS rear boot areas to see if something was missing or out of place.

    True and more...

I checked the boot rubber bumpers and guess what? They were loose! So I screwed them back in and no more rattles!

Well I ended up pushing down on either side of the boot lid with it closed. I could hear a noise. Come to find out the boot lid was not latched properly. The fix electrical tape on the boot lid latch striker. So no more rattling boot lid.

Yep, I use black duct tape because it lasts longer. It's the only fix I've found fort Coupe to keep the boot from rattling.

I have a rattle in my boot to but it is the license plate bracket. The nut inside the hatch rotates so I can't get it right. Any one know how to fix it?

The threaded nut in the hatch is replaceable. I would purchase two nuts and screws.

    #7 nut 51188242693 x2
    #10 washer 51181813017 x2
    #11 screw 51419143799 x2
