I've got a 2008 R56s. Just replaced the thermostat housing 2 years ago and I'm running into problems with it. I replaced the temp sensor and it didn't help it. Is there any way to tell if the thermostat is bad? It still looks brand new. It's been running about 160°F so the conclusion I came to was that it's stuck open. Doesn't make sense with such a new thermostat.

Running to cool is not good. You will waste fuel & cause the oil in the engine to sludge up. Your thermostat is not old, but not new, your thought of a stuck open thermostat is correct I believe.

Well I checked the thermostat. It's not stuck open in the slightest. Next idea anyone?

How are you determining the water temp?

Bluetooth obd2 reader. It's always shown around 210 until recently.

Not sure what the deal was but I decided to put it back together as the thermostat looked brand new still. Running great at 220 currently.

Correction. It's going up to temp while sitting. Moving it stays around 160

Is your AC or heater on? I have noticed if I turn on the AC the temps will drop pretty quick.

Ac isn't even charged at the moment lol. So that's a no, and no to the heater as well.

Do you have the "sport button"pressed or it modified to be always in sport mode? I kinda recall that in sport mode, the motor run at a cooler temp.
    Disclaimer...I am a gen 1 guy..but have read it a few times...

I do use it...my hand automatically goes there soon as I start it. But that's always been the case and it ran at normal operating temps before.
