Hi all, I am new and really green to this great platform so have been doing some research during my 3 weeks of ownership and loving the car. It definitely helps me keep the gas guzzler caged throughout the week. Car is pretty much stock with 50k, came with a CAI, Carbon scoop and some wheels. Really doubt is tuned but what do i know?..what i do know is I would like to add a little more power to make it more interesting than what it already is..maaaaybe a downpipe to go with some exhaust work to let her breathe better along with the tune off course So what is a safe/reliable tune? Thanks in advance
I suggest getting your suspension set up before adding power. What year, model do you have? Also welcome to MA. There's a ton of MINI experience here to help you......and yes, we like to see pictures.
Thanks for your reply, Car is a 2007 MCS AUTO. Suspension is in my plans for sure, and have looked into it as well, only thing is i commute from NY to NJ a few times a week and roads are HELL!! my other car is lowered so i'd like to keep this as comfortable and far from the ground as possible, at least for the time being, come spring maybe will think about it.:cornut:
Forget the tune on an Automatic. Your best bet would be to dump your OEM runflat tires and get real tires. I am in the Philly burbs and I know what you mean by crappy roads.
Help me understand how a tune wont work on an Automatic? ..not looking to track, race or break records.. I btw built a 10 second AMG with a 5speed AUTO Stock tranny :cornut: so please dont tell me a lil power it cant be attained here :cryin:
A little more power specially down low, Im always in and out of traffic and some aggressiveness is required when you drive around here. I've read some guys gain around 25-30 bhp..
Welcome to M/A! However, contrary to Dave.O's "advice", I say, "go with a Jan tune for an automatic!" My S is a Gen 1 automatic and Jan's tune has done wonders for its get up and go. However, first I would work on something suspensionwise...at least strut tower reinforcement plates to keep the strut towers in check and to help prevent mushrooming as a result of your crappy roads. Or, go get some Ireland Engineering fixed camber plates. they will reinforce your strut towers while helping your cornering, etc. Then, I'd go with a 3 hole adjustable rear sway bar and some better springs [mine are TSW and I really like them]. Just my 2c.
Will do thanks Sounds great man! sounds like suspension is one of the weak links in these. will address it for sure. thanks
I have had an RMW tune for years and love it. Yes, Jan will be able to add more power but you will be a little limited because of the Automatic and it's shift points. Where are you located?
OK, he has an automatic...so, what's your point? So do I and I can STILL drive ok, I think. A Jan tune will still improve his performance...it has on MY AUTOMATIC and I TRACK MINE...do you? So the sift points are not as crisp as on a stick shift...as long as I am having FUN while driving any of my MINIs, I could care less about being "shift perfect".
Nothing wrong with automatics. I may see one in my next car. Don't have a tune, but from what I gather RMW is the guy to do one.
Ok calm the F down people I was not trashing the automatic so get your panties out of your crack. When it comes to having your car tuned you will get more max HP and Tq out of a stick because you can rev higher. It's that simple so calm down old men and take your geritol. GET OFF MY LAWN.
I'm nice & calm, but thanks for worrying about my crackage Dave. So there is a different red line for an automatic? I was sure they were the same, but at my age I ain't sure of much.
Im sure there will be limitations everytime when it comes to auto transmissions, cant wait to see what he can do..I live in Long Island NY. .I saw hes out West, or so i read on an old thread.
He is usually at MOTD, and seems to appear all over the country. You just need to talk more to Dave.O and perhaps Eric at Helix to see when he will be in the East.
