The second oem coolant expansion tank has decided to fail at the seam on my r53. I would like to purchase an aluminum tank to prevent this from being an issue again. It appears there are two general styles: one that utilizes a factory cap and one that uses a stant cap. That being said, does anyone have any recommendations regarding coolant reservoirs?

Thanks for the recommendations myles2go and quikmni! The Greene Performance tank looks very well made and quite nice under the bonnet, but is a bit more than I'd like to spend. The Canton tank seems quite nice as well and a bit more budget friendly. Where do you run the vent hose? How well does it fit compare to the factory tank?

I'm a big fan of the Greene tank, because the canton and RMW tanks don't leave much clearance between the coil cable and the tank.

Most people don't really need to worry about the vent (putting a hose on it, routing it anywhere) because it's only going to vent under extreme conditions (read: never for most people). And, if it does, it's just going to dump a little coolant there like the OEM cap would.

BUT, if you're going to track the car, some orgs will require a catch bottle to be plumbed up to that, so it can't vent coolant onto the track. I have a Moroso overflow bottle in the right side cowl, with a hose running to the top.

I don't have one, but I can vouch for the quality of the Greene Performance tank!

Painted this one for a member here last year.

    Here's something else to consider.
Greene Performance and RMW support us MINI owners and enthusiasts by making available products and knowledge that aren't always easy to come by, and in some cases, would not exist without their R&D and fabrication.

If you think you'll be modding your car or even just making improvements as OEM stuff wears out, please consider supporting the guys that support us.

Thanks everyone for the positive words.
While I encourage you to buy my tank just do make sure you get one with a real radiator cap rather than the factory cap thats known to be questionable even when new.

Excellent points blimeycabro and themodfather. The Greene performance tank looks to be very well built. (And nice job the themodfather for the sweet paint job. Nice attention to detail on the weld beads!).

Shifter, Excellent point regarding supporting those who support use. I Ended up going with a tank from Way as he promptly responds to my all of email questions and phone calls.

Colin, it appears you provide a premium product, and while I will not be seeing it first hand this time, I will keep you in mind for future component purchases.

    Thanks all.

The Canton tank works fine for me thus far.
I upgraded the to Canton tank over the Greene Performance tank ONLY because i didnt want to do any modification to make it fit.

Heard really great stuff about Colin though, hoping to get my coilovers from him.

His new version doesn't require any modifications to fit.
