So I got a CEL the other day, and took the car into our good friends at Best Motor Werks. They determined I needed a Valve Cover assembly and the PVC Vent hose, as I was leaking vacuum at the oil separator diaphragm and had a light leak at the valve cover > intake vent hose. Looking online, this seems fairly straightforward and should be a fun bit of maintenance so I ordered the above parts from our good friends at Detroit Tuned. I do have the Bently Service Manual. Any common or undocumented pitfalls I should be aware of?
Absolutely no surprises... very easy to do.... You will loose the MINI badge unless you reuse the old one (that would be the hardest part to change)...
Yeah, I saw that the badge would be lost. Not a huge deal, to tell the truth. I'm thinking of taking all the badges off anyway, so that's one less. Thanks for the reply!
When I did mine the badge stayed off... Just pay attention to the tightening sequence as you set the torque on the nuts.... 10Nm (7.3 ft-lb) or 87.6 inch pounds....
Swap went well. The hardest part was the vent hose, as my hand is just a little too large to get the release at the intake manifold easily, but I managed. The car is still throwing the same code, so I'm assuming that it will self adjust soon? Should I reset something? I did have the battery disconnected, which I thought would clear it.
You need to have the codes cleared from the car with a scan tool, resetting the adaptations wouldn't be a bad idea either.
Autozone will be able to clear it. But, if you like to tinker with your car, you really should get a code reader to be able to take are of that kind of stuff yourself.
Aaaaand it cleared itself. Huzzah? Thanks for the feedback and advice all. I'm still something of a n00b when it comes to things more complicated than basic maintenance.
