I have the NM Engineering short shift adapter coming, but I hear that with a SSK, you either 1) leave the dust cover off or 2) cut it so that the shifter clears.

Any issues or problems with leaving the dust cover off permanently?

No issues at all leaving it off. I have a Helix Short shifter installed for 8 years now and I have never had an issue since is behind the exhaust heat shield.

Thanks Dave. I actually switched my order, so I'm getting the Helix SS now. The extra 17% reduced throw with Helix changed my mind.

I cut the cover then made an aluminum box and riveted to the cover. It took a few tries to get the size right. If you want the measurements PM me

Really? We use Salt and it gets everywhere also. BUT it does NOT get behind the exhaust heat shield in the transmission tunnel.

Living in FL, I don't have to worry about the extraneous crap spewed on the roads for ice & snow as you northerners do :biggrin5:

Do you notice more heat coming from the shifter area? I actually called Helix to get their take on running without the dust cover, and they said that's the only drawback. But again, being in FL, summer is hotter than hell anyway, so I doubt that a little more heat will really make a difference...

You don't drive the Mistress when there's salt on the road anyway!

Lava cinders break down into a very abrasive dust......and it gets everywhere. Seriously.....everywhere.

Yes, I do. It a lot of fun passing big SUV's in a small, super clean MINI in the snow.:lol::lol:

All wheel drive does not help if you don't know how to drive in the snow to begin with. :ihih::lol:
