Hello, I recently had my red brake light and the mini on a lift symbol come on. I cleaned the front sensor and now the light has turned from red to yellow and was able to reset the service mileage , however after trying all the reset procedures I can't get the light to turn off, the pads look good. Any help would be appreciated Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
If the the sensor has not been worn through it could be a short some where els or it is not plugged in good. You have one on the rear, did you check it also?
i cant imagine what cleaning the sensor would do. They are sacrificial, once triggered they must be replaced (or bypassed)
^^^ This, or are you sitting in your car with the e-brake on. You can clean the brake pad sensors. One they trip you need to replace them. Think of them like fuses, once tripped you replace the pads and then the stupid sensor.
Yeah I don't know, it was red, then I jacked up the car and took the tire off and cleaned the sensor with rubbing alcohol. Started the car and both symbols went away, put the wheel back on and lowered it then started it again and turned yellow, I haven't had a chance to look at the rear one yet. I will probably just replace them , anyone know if a good place to get them? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
All the sensor is, is a wire that when your pads get thin the sensor rubs the rotor and cuts the wire. This causes the light to come on. They are about $14 each.
Makes sense . If I wanted to bypass them I could just nut them together keep the circuit closed Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I saw may brakes had these idiot sensors in 2008 and I cut them and soldered them together years ago. Little heat shrink and some 3M tape and they have been hidden ever since without any issues. Cars don't need brake sensors for pads. People / owners need common sense on checking brake pads.
Mine were bypassed at the first pad change. Solder & some liquid tape, pretty neat stuff. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Gardner-Bender-4-fl-oz-Liquid-Electrical-Tape-Black-LTB-400/100119178
Check your fluid level. If the level is too low the float drops and turns on the brake light Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
True but if you need brake fluid then it may be time for new pads. If not then you need to make sure there is no leaks.
