I only have 1 fob right now and drove the car yesterday with no issues, today I go to fire it up and get no reaction when I put the key in. The fob locks and unlocks the doors but does car does not recognize anything is in the slot so it will not start. Car battery is fine. I tried putting the key in, taking it out, holding unlock and hitting lock 3 times but got nothing. How do I charge the fob? It was fine one day and not working the next...
The fob battery is only used for the remote transmitter. You said door lock/unlock works, so your fob is charged up fine. Starting the car requires that it recognize the immobilizer smartchip in the fob, which doesn't involve the battery. If you hold the fob next to the ignition switch and open the drivers door, does the car do the ping warning ("leaving keys in car")? Try resetting the car electronics by disconnecting the car battery for 20 minutes.
Hey, the ads going up and it's getting sold as soon as I can get it started. I'm gonna take a few parts off it but I don't even care if I take a loss. What an idiotic design that push button is. Seriously. I hate this turd. It now runs without codes if I can get the key to work again so I'm gonna jump on this opportunity to sell before cylinder 2 decides to let go like every other mini that's not slow... If I keep this car I'm going to lose my mind. The car doesn't warn me keys are in the car when I lock. I'll try disconnecting battery. It literally worked fine and then stopped working again within a 24 hour period.
Disconnecting the battery didn't work. What's pretty funny is that I held the unlock button on the fob and my windows rolled down now they won't roll back up. Im considering bringing out the hammer. Am I going to have to buy a new key? Did I mention how much this car sucks?
Car battery was plugged in, I'm thinking the sensor in the fob died somehow. Car is not moving until I get a new key I guess...
I have the same exact problem with my 2005 cooper. All the lights come on remote locks work EML light and all other light come on when I turn the key but it won't turn over. Not even a clicking sound. Not sure if it's the key, which I tried both or the security system. Any help would be appreciated.
I am sorry Guapish_Fliver I was asking the other dud, jpanzino. Guapish_Fliver Can you take your key to a dealer and have them put it in their reader to see if it is bad?
Just sell the car with both fobs and tell the buyer only one works but a dealership can fix it. Just get rid of the whole car. :ihih:
