Hi All, I have never posted here before, but have become quite upset over my 2007 Mini Cooper's radio issue. In mid October I had it serviced for a check engine light. The dealer stated it was a problem with some valves dumping too much gas as I drove. Those were fixed, I went on vacation for a week, I come home and a few days later the radio doesn't turn on. No lights, no CD, nothing. I take it back to them, sure that they have messed something up, and they said wherever they worked within my car was nowhere near the radio, and if I wanted them to look deeper into the issue, it would be about a 2 hour diagnoses (running roughly $135/hour), and it could potentially run me a total of $800 if I need a new radio. Sometimes, however, my radio will randomly turn on. I find it usually happens after driving for a while, and usually when I hit the highway and start driving at a pretty steady speed. Does anyone have ANY suggestions at all? I'm at my wits end here- and the dealership is quite frankly no help. They offered me zero suggestions of what it could be. It is getting quite annoying driving without a radio to/from work. Also- I would like to throw it out there that I only bought this Mini in August, from a private graduate student seller. The sun roof does not work- I knew upon purchasing it, had some money knocked off the price. The lights on the radio were a little weird sometimes, not always completely lit up, but I NEVER had a problem with the radio, not once, until I got it back from the dealer. Any help/suggestions would be GREAT. Thank you!!!!
When the battery gets old and near the end of it's life the MINI starts acting up with strange electrical issues.... You might want to check to see if it still has the original battery.... Driving the MINI might be bringing the state of charge up to where things start working... But then drops after sitting....
Gotta be that or just a loose connection. If you were close by me I could have your dash taken apart in about 20 minutes lol.
I will vote for you need or will be needing a new battery soon. It's getting cold and if you still have the original battery it's about at the end of its life and letting you know it's about to die.
Hi All, I had the battery checked, it was a good battery but needed to be recharged. I had the Mini dealer charge it while it was getting fixed for the motor blower not working, but the radio is still inoperable. I have called a few auto shops around, but no one has worked on a Mini Cooper radio before. They are basically telling me it is smarter to install an aftermarket radio because more than likely the radio is just bad, and to attempt to diagnosis it will be juts as much as putting in a brand new radio. Help! Suggestions? Has anyone had this problem before? I love my car, but no radio is pretty much a dealbreaker. I'd rather not spend $500 on an aftermarket radio, but the $1,300-$800 quote the Mini dealer gave me is just crazy. Appreciate any help!:confused5:
Check all the fuses for the radio. May even just be a lose connection. I'd fiddle around behind the radio and see if something is amiss back there.
Can you even put an afermarket in a MINI? I wonder if any of the parts resellers around here have kits you could do yourself?
That is not a bad price. I thought it was whole lot more. Hope the one in Babs Skooby keeps rockin the tunes. :fingerscrossed: eMINIparts.com does have great prices & stellar service. :biggrin5:
