So my dreaded CVT auto tranny finally bit the dust at 148,000 miles. Was driving through the mountain pass and decided to pass a slow driver. As I was passing, the car started to lose power and I noticed a trail of smoke and oil/tranny fluid behind me. Then came what sounded like a blender under my car. I face palmed and knew instantly what the problem was. I've got to much time, effort, and money into my mini to sell it as is and I am not about to put another CVT in. So my question is... Is there anyone here who has made the swap? Is there anyone who has any advice/info? I've done some research, looks like way motor works has the kit for the swap as well as the know how. Way is in Georgia and I am in Oregon, too far. So I've been looking around for somewhere closer that might be suited to take the task on. I found Mini Cooper Experts just outside of L.A. CA. They seem to be the closest. Haven't called them yet to see if they have any experience. If someone knows of a shop with experience in this field closer to Oregon that would be great. Sorry for the hectic and scattered info. I'm writing this up on my break at work since my home computer is fried and I hate typing on my phone.
Well there is a crazy man, or maybe a genius it's hard to tell, who runs around here, BlimeyCabrio. He can help you. He has done an auto to manual swap. Well he has swapped everything now that I think about it. You should PM him. Just check this thread. http://www.motoringalliance.com/forums/project-car-builds/22081-locutus-gp-roadster-project.html
You might also check with the PDXMINI club and see if there is anyone they could suggest. I know there is a member who is well regarded as a MINI mechanic, but not sure if this is something he has done.
Um well..............Maybe we shouldn't go there but if Paul shows up maybe he will answer that question too.:biggrin5:
I think Way ( Way Motor Works ) has done a half a dozen or so. He's pretty far from you, but he might know who may have done some on the West coast.
