it's not just the countryman, it is any mini with the N18 engine the ECU was changed to not allow writing new programming via the OBD2 port, thr ECU must be opened, a chip inside removed and programmed via an EEPROM writer i bet there was some government input to this design change scott
This is exactly what happened... But I think it's because BMW doesn't like you messing with their stuff. They frown on aftermarket anything.
Solution is just buy a JCW Countryman or Paceman when they become available. Actually know that a few places do offer a tune, but all out of car on the bench. We shall see if anyone gets around the N18 limitations, it might take a year or two. Don
I am asking this honestly, not joking around. If the N18 engine proves to not be "tuneable", how will the impact sales? I know there are a bunch of you folks out there that must have the extra power of the tune, so will this make anyone leave the brand? As old81 said, someone will get around it, even if it is a completely new, aftermarket ECU. Jim
Just pick the right one going in... Three tunes are available from the factory. And they all come with a warranty. IMO, I'm satisfied with the factory JCW tune... But that could just be me. Yeah, more power is always nice... But I'm not convinced the Prince engine should / could really produce more without issues... With the new engines right around the corner I wouldn't expect much effort being put towards the N18 setup...
I don't think this will impact sales at all. The majority of owners aren't into the tuning thing like us power heads :ihih: And others are completely fine with the JCW tuning package.
There are a few vendors out there tuning the H18 but it involves either sending the ECU to them. I know Jan from RMW is doing it but the ECU needs to be opened which voids your warranty.
