Ok, i've been a little stumped by this one for about a week now. I took a drive up the hill to the Sequoia National Park and my mileage was straight CRAP! Could it have been that I filled my tank with 89 octane (from 76) that day? Or could it be something else?

    Recent maintenance:
    >Spark Plugs
    >K&N Air Filter
    >Lucas Fuel Treatment

Beyond that, i was driving in Sport mode and not outrageous by any means as it was just a leisurely drive.

My normal range before I lose one light on my fuel meter is about 20-+ miles and that kinda bugs me, but than again, I'm not sure where I should be with that.

When I do watch my MPG it sits at about 23-26 city and 29-33 hwy.

    Ideas?

    Feedback?

    Help?:fingerscrossed:

    Thanks!

Sport mode + up hill? You would probably get crappy mileage. It'll probably go back to normal when you get back to your regular routine.

    1. Stop running the 89. That hurts mileage in the CM.

    2. See Dave's comment.

    3. I only manage 26.3 all the time with my CM ALL4 automatic in Colorado, we have crappy 91 with corn, just plain hard on the MINI engines.

    4. Sport mode is fun but it will take a few MPGs away from you, but it is still fun!

    Thanks! Very much appreciated.

I find it almost difficult to not drive in sport mode. The throttle response time in "normal" mode just kills the joy; but I get what you mean. Yah, I need to stop the 89 stuff and that was the second or third time I used it.

I never put in anything less then 93 Shell or Sunoco.

Sport mode also equals poor milage.

+ 1 on the Sport Mode = Fun (not economy) I can always tell a noticeable difference in mileage between when I'm having fun and just driving along. Probably nothing abnormal at all. (Bring on the Young Frankenstein jokes.)

As we can only get 91 out here, I never buy anything but. That said, I've been known to mix a bit of unleaded VP100 in the tank for steroidal purposes...

I'm a who cares kinda guy when it comes to fuel economy.

I'm no good at offering fuel economy tips...

    Ohh. I do know one.

    Don't drive like my brother.

I drive less than 5K miles a year. I don't care about mileage.

Sport mode opens the throttle body more, using more fuel.
as for fuel grade, a boosted car really needs premium anyway.
