:mad5: So I started to get the same half-power symbol popping up again, but this time something went wrong I had just driven about 85+- miles and while almost home the symbol pops up. I kept driving and got home with no resulting issues...until I get back in the car to go back to the office and it won't turn over. I tried several times to no avail. Finally I just call the tow truck and get it over to the local indi...:incazzato:! I had called the local indi while waiting for the truck to let them know I was on my way down. They specified that the were pretty busy but they would do their best to get it in for a least a diagnosis and would be able to call me later to give me an update. That's fine! Drop the car off, get to the rental car place and get home. end of day one. (Tuesday) Get to work the next day and lunch comes and goes and no call...so I call them. the voice mail box of the service manager is full. so I try a different extension and get someone to be told that they were able to run the scan and that the codes were all "jumbled" and they "had to send them off to be decoded and then they would be able to let me know what the problem is". End of day two (Wednesday) With day three coming to a close I call them again...not once up until this point have I received a call from them...only to be told they still hadn't gotten the report back on whats wrong with it. :mad2: I schedule to pick the car up the next day, not point in it sitting there! According to them it's driving just fine and nothing else has gone wrong. End of day three (Thursday) Walk in to get my car and talk to one of, whom I assume is, one of the owners about the problem. Still no concrete answer on what's wrong with it. They had to send the codes to Germany to be decoded. :mad2::mad5::incazzato: The original service manager is also out on vacation. I leave, go to work, and on the way home the damn light comes on again. End of week No problems over the weekend or monday. Today, Tuesday, I call them again and the original service manager tells me he doesn't know what's going on with it. I refresh his memory and again says he doesn't know anything. I told him that I was told, all I've explained above and he said he would get back to me shortly. I don't see that happening. I paid them a little over $100 bucks to be given no valuable information. Regrettably, the nearest MINI dealer is 150 miles away, but the good thing is there's a chance I'll get a loaner when I drop it off. Made an appointment for next Monday and plan to put it on a tow truck and either ride with them or figure out something else. This "indi" is completely full of S@*T! I've read through their few Yelp reviews and several complaints similar to mine. My MINI will never see the inside of this place again. I wish there was a way MINI would pull the ability to work on their vehicles. They shouldn't work on anything honestly! End Rant!
Send the codes to Germany? Just anybody in Germany? The Hofbrauhaus? BMW? Lucky them: we, as an independent shop, don't enjoy the privilege of sending BMW 'jumbled' codes and getting explanations.
Not to jack your thread but I am going through the same thing with a dealership. This is the second time for the same problem, first time it took three weeks, on the third week this go around, and not one time has the dealership called me with an update. I take that back they did call with the bill the first go around, but that's it, I have been making all the calls.
UPDATE: Here is what I was just sent...I honestly wasn't expecting them to send me anything. Interesting that the codes went from being sent to Germany to the UK...similar? Not so similar? Whatever! I also told them they wouldn't be seeing me or my car again. I'm sure that'll hurt em...right!?! DIGITAL MOTOR/DIESEL ELECTRONICS (DME/DDE) (MVD1722) 6 Faults 3786 Refrigerant pump, electrical ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 2C57 Charging pressure control, plausibility ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 2D60 VANOS, exhaust ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 2C58 Charging pressure control, switch-off ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 3784 Auxiliary water pump, electric ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 293A Coolant temperature sensor, plausibility ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now they're telling me that they sent the codes to the UK. Personally, I don't think of Germany as the UK, but okay!
If they aren't sure of the difference between Germany and the UK... That is not a good sign.... Wonder if that impacts their ability to understand engine codes... So they just gave up and sent them on to Germany, which everyone knows is in the UK.... Yeah... That's gotta be it...
Well, the codes are in the hand of the dealer for monday's trip. Putting her on a flatbed tow truck and going along for the ride. It's gonna be a long, long day!
Update: So yesterday was the drop off day and all went extremely smooth...the tow truck ride was a little rough though. Get to the dealer, nice place by the way, and checked in with the service center. They showed me around the place and got me comfortable. They were going to run a quick diagnostic to see if this was something the indi messed up on with the high pressure fuel pump...all was good on that. However, what did come back was not the greatest of news...yet! opcorn:Service guy comes back and explains that my turbo is shot, the water pump pulley is cracked, a solenoid (can't remember the rest of the name of it) for the timing needs to be replaced, and I've got a cracked and leaking boot on my front driver side. crap! Well, the turbo and the pulley should be covered, but the other two are on me. Okay, lets get this going. They have to submit the repairs to the warranty company first and go from there. One thing I didn't know was that my warranty also covered 5 days of rental...SWEET! The dealer gets that set up for me and I'm off back home...140 drive home. While on the way back I get a call from the dealer and they let me know that the rep from the warranty company will be out in 24-48 hours and that I'm looking at about $800 for the repairs for what won't be covered. I tell him I have to figure out a few things and that we'd chat tomorrow. Get a call today and freaking AWESOME news all around! The turbo, pulley, and not only the boot, but the entire front axel will be replaced, UNDER warranty! The rep decided to condemn the entire front axel...who would argue?!? At the end of all of this, as it sits, I'm paying for the solenoid and the main belt to be replaced...figured to just change the belt since they'll have it off anyway and save me the time later. They're looking at Friday to possibly have it done, but it all depends on how quickly they can get the front axel. :mtrn: The decision to buy the extended warranty is probably one of the best decisions I've ever made!
Update: blew a piston right through the side of the engine! Yep, you read that right. I was abou 175 miles away from the dealer and BAM!!! oil and parts everywhere! I get a new engine!
Read this thread again, one thing, I must have missed. How many miles on your 2011 Countryman. Wow, you blew the engine on the way home, did they fill it with oil? Holy Carp!
I'm sitting at about 76K miles on the engine - and yah...there was oil in it...and it left a slick about 50+yards long on California HWY 101.
