Does anyone have any tips/advice/prefered product for cleaning the black plastic trim on their MINI? ODOT seems to have a surplus of road salt this winter, and they are intent on using it all. :mad5: Not only the spray on liquid, but the grit/granules as well. MY MINI is bloody covered in white crap!!!! Now the body is going to be relatively easy to clean (once temps are high enough to stop water freezing on contact), but I have the feeling that the black trim is going to be a pain centered around the rectal area. Off to work now to add another layer of the Dead Sea to my car!!!!

Dave, thank you. I'll try that when I can wash the Coop without getting bloody frostbite!!! I would have given your post a "like", but that is covered in another thread.
The most important part about using Penetrol is making sure your moldings are free of any silicone crap like Black WOW, Back to Black or any other goo type trim / tire dressing. When I treat / detail an older car after it is fully power washed and dried. I wipe down the trim with Acetone than Lacquer thinner to remove all the Silicone from the trim first and let it dry. Then apply 1 coat of Penetrol with a sponge with rubber gloves on. Let it dry and do another coat. If you want to add a third you can, just make sure the other coats dry in between first. When you are done toss the gloves and sponge because that stuff is never coming out of the sponge. Your trim will always look great, dust will just wipe right off because the trim is dry and water even beads right off when washing. Oh and Yellow road paint will come right off also. My friend tested it with his all black mustang after I just detailed his car. :mad2: :lol: (moron)
I used the Penetrol on my R56 per Dave.0's suggestion. Worked great. I'll be using it on the new car after a while too. Still have plenty of acetone and penetrol. Thanks Dave!
Anyone preference on the brand of acetone or just what Home Depot has? Would love to do the trim this weekend, but work gets in the way of the fun stuff. Also, it's supposed be colder than my ex-wife's heart.
Supplies purchased. Now just have to wait for the weather to cooperate. Do I need to mask off the paintwork around the black trim? (This is all new to me).
Not unless you colored outside the lines as a kid. :lol: I use a wax sponge and go slow around the edges and if any gets on the paint I wipe it off asap.
