Hey, everyone. I created a video and posted it on YouTube demonstrating how to remove the seat backs on the R56. Hope this helps some of you out. I don't recommend removing the bench portion because the car becomes too noisy unless you have some alternative in mind. All you really need is a long screwdriver. This is from an R56 but may work on other models. [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zfUFFIM6lXE"]MINI Cooper Rear Seat Delete and Installation: How to - YouTube[/ame] Eddy
Welcome! Enjoy the ride! And yes, it is loud without the bench. On the other hand I know that my fuel pup is working perfectly.
Nice video. By the way, the rear seats on my 2002 Cooper S are removed/installed exactly the same way. (I removed them to fit a dog crate in my car one time) So I would guess that this video would be useful for all years of the hatchback MINIs.
How do you remove the plastic cover from the center bracket, before even starting to remove the rear seat backs? I'm prying on it and the back base of the cover seems to come loose easy. The front isn't.
My 2015 F56 Cooper S has a welded center mount! If you're really serious about rear seat removal and want a flat load floor, you can probably drill out the spot welds and maybe replace them with PEM or weld-nuts to allow bolting it back on in the future? To remove the plastic cover, it clips on to the sides of the bracket at the back side of the shoe-shaped cover, and in to slots in the plastic on the front side. Not easy to remove! I pried it apart in the back and tilted it up, then used a small screwdriver to pop it off the left and right sides (tight up against the rear seat back) from inside the car. Then pulled it straight up.
