The top, chrome part of my shift knob has been popping off for a while, because a couple of the tabs that hold it on were broken, but I was always able to put it back on. Now, all four tabs have broken, so I'm going to have to pry open my wallet and replace it. I can go to Sewell MINI and buy a replacement, but it occurred to me that there might be an aftermarket replacement that is better/cheaper/cooler. Any ideas? CD
All kinds of options available. Hate to say it, but google is your friend with something like this. I have a simple chrome one myself and like it.
Don't know what a stock replacement would cost or what you're willing to pay, but I'm really happy with my Cravenspeed knob.
What generation of MINI? I think I still have the original knob from my Clubman in a cabinet in the garage.
I have a simple plain round one, and it's so much more comfortable than the stock knob. Nothing special, just a round black ball.
It is a matter of trust. I trust you guys to steer me right, not Google -- although, I'm not 100-percent sure about some of you. :biggrin5: CD
I am assuming that I can just replace the decorative top half cap. The rest of the knob is fine. If the same thing happened on one of my Audis, I'd probably have to replace the whole f-ing transmission. I'm hoping for a cheaper remedy on my MINI. CD
Mod yur shifter schtick... I did mine old school hot rod with a Mooneyes ball... Very comfortable in the cold of winter and the blazing hot of summer... [/IMG]
The knob BAD is offering will fit your car. Both are 2nd gen. Get something you like the looks of and the feel. There are lots of ideas here on weighted knobs and light weight knobs. But at the end of the day it's what your happy with. Mine's aluminum that I milled and weighted that I can change the look of with swapable front and back parts.
