In a remarkable coincidence of timing, the 5th anniversary of Dragon Draggin' is the 10th anniversary of MOTD! I've already purchased the trophies and will be Mini-izing them over the winter. The last event was so much fun that we're doing it AGAIN. Cars will be available around December for any who wish to participate. We'll of course have the Beauty Contest again, and again we'll have 2 classes of racing: Sportsman (regular pinewood Mini cars, prizes 3 places deep, strict Pinewood Derby rules apply), and "Modified" (10 ounce limit, fewer rules, but only ONE prize). And again, afterward, we'll have an organized drive this time - to an uber-secret destination - to eat the absolute best burgers on the planet. I worry about using this phrase in the Mini community, but... Stay tuned!
Three words: One. Pound. Burgers. I'm not even ordering the car kits for a while, but am moving heaven and earth to be there for MOTD 10!
Of course not. Booked our room before we left! I have my vacation slip filled out for work... but I'm guessing they don't want it till at least January.
My 1st MOTD!!! Was supposed 2 go last year, but couldn't make it. Definitely gonna make the 10-yr anniv, tho! Got my cabin (like I did last year) all set. Gonna squirrel away as much as I can this winter so there will be NO issues when I get there! Sooo stoked!!! Woo-hooooo! :cornut:
This will be an awesome first MOTD for you! Hope to see you there! Saving- good idea..... I need to put the "modding" wand down and do that
Congratz on being fully retired...... Hmmmm retired and retread..... aren't they the same thing?.... I'm confused...
I always wanted to go to the Dragon when I owned my old (2002) Mini but never got the chance. It sounds like it is a blast. I'll have to take some time off to get there! So where is the preferred place to stay? Do most people stay the whole time? What are the "must do" things at MOTD for a newbie?
Most folks do attend from Wed to Sunday. Some of us even get there earlier. Some folks just come on what ever day they can. Fontana Village is the best place to stay. That's where the vendors are, the dinners and the day drives start. They are probably booked but you can get on their wait list. Topoco lodge is the second closest place to stay. You can find a complete lodging list HERE The must things are going to vary from person to person. For me, it's the Welcome and Farewell Dinner. The meals are not everyone's liking, but there are not too many times you can chow with 400 fellow MINIacs. Bingo and Brewswap are very popular as well. From there you can pick and choose which day drives you like. And of course try to take in one of the "Newbie Orientations" and one of the night drives on Saturday
I had promised myself NOT to start really thinking about MOTD until after the holidays. Then Dixon starts this thread and now I'm thinking about it already. :mad2: Jim
