Originally shown in the high output BMW M4, this week at BMW’s Innovation Days, the company took the wraps off of a scaled down version destined for MINI’s three and four cylinder engines. The principle is relatively simple, cooler temperatures allows for higher output without sacrificing MPG. But the details are pretty interesting....

I'm rather curious as to what "on-board water recovery" is exactly.

    Interesting idea....
But MINI/BMW takes some big risks using new technology before the bugs are fully worked out...
Carbon issues with the n14 direct injection motors come to mind...

I wonder if BMW called DAVE-O?
I hear he like squirting stuff into his motor?! He could give them some tips?!:p

I strongly suspect it captures condensation from an always-on AC system.

How about they just stick to "trying" to build motors that are not such high maintenance and burn oil.

Maybe a motor that does not have a recall for 5 year before it is named motor of the year.

Paul may be correct about the water source. A additional source could be condensation in the exhaust. I have first hand knowledge that car companies have always been reluctant to use water injection because of the requirement to fill the extra tank.
