Well...the car that was designed by the original MINI designer made a certain group happy... Maybe if they want to be all things to all people...they give something to the original MINI lovers... something more gen1 like...by the original design team look...not quite like a rocket man....
Hate to say it but the old "Dino Burners" are history.... The thrust is aimed at making vehicles run on pixies... Burning hydrocarbons will slowly fade away..... Which should be interesting.... You pay a road tax every time you fill up now.... You can expect some type of adjustment will get added to everyone's utility bill... They gotta keep getting the funds for road maintenance... And just wait until everyone starts burdening our feeble electric grid with all those instant chargers to add the pixies back into those battery cells.... Rolling brownouts, here we come... Hah... The Dragon will have orange extension cords at every bend in the road tieing into the grid at Robbinsville... Now git off my grass....
You think they can add $$ to folks with solar panels on the roof...lol...I think road taxes are going to go the way if commercial trucks ...a per mile fee...so it's more equitable...has lots of issues...but might be the only way...electrics avoid the taxes, the Honda NG's (natural gas, with home filling) totally avoid it..so many options coming down the line.... The thought that oil use is going away is why I picked up diesel..gotta go burn some dinosaurs in their less refined form .... incredible tourque ...and the things the independent tuners can do will amaze you....plan was if I kept it, to have some fun when the warrenty was gone...figured go drive one before the modern high tourque oil burners disappeared for good from cars... But now if I get back what I paid for my VW they are using September 2015 values for the buyback of a 2015)+ an extra amount (they already sent $1000, most say it might be an extra $2500-3500)...might be time to take the cash and run...free use of a new car for 18 months...lol..might be MINI time again...starting to get the urge...springtime!! Who woulda thought...I might have made a few $$ by buying a NEW car...lol... can't count on it till it happens...but details are leaking out of the proceedings, gag-order or not.
I came across this article and now I am beginning to think that it is a good thing they didn't leave the design up to the Brits at Rover. Check out this monstrosity. http://jalopnik.com/this-rear-engine-hatchback-almost-became-the-new-mini-c-1478172102 At least it's smaller - maybe Dave will be a fan
I like the ACV 30, a very minimal sporty looking car with a great interior. Comparing photos, the R58 Coupe does resemble the ACV 30, so I guess they had some type of vision at one point in time. Its a shame it took so long to get there, only to turn around and axe it. I think they should have tried a little more with that platform.
