So as I can' sleep this morning, I was up reading the news on yahoo. There is a young boy, age 5, that needs some birthday cards. He, Danny, has cancer and all he wants for his birthday is a box full of birthday cards. This is taking all I have to type and ask this due to losing a cousin that was 5 back in 1986 in a hit and run. I normally don't make request like this but if yall can help by sending a birthday card to make this child very happy I would appreciate it. his birthday is 25 July so not much time. A 5-year-old Massachusetts boy battling cancer said all he wants for his upcoming birthday is a box of birthday cards. Danny Nickerson, of Foxboro, Massachusetts, will turn six on July 25. He was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor this past October -- one of the most chemotherapy-resistant cancers. As a result, he has since stopped going to kindergarten. The boy gets lonely from time to time, and is always happy to get cards with his name written on them. “He can recognize his name now,†Carley Nickerson, Danny’s mother told ABC News. “When he saw his name on the package from magical fairies on Easter, he was so happy.†But the packages and cards stopped after Easter. “He had 33 radiations from November through December last year,†Nickerson said. “We are now getting chemo therapy every two weeks.†Doctors tell Nickerson that less than 10 percent of the children diagnosed with this type of cancer live longer than 18 months. “I don’t really believe in that. He is doing great,†Nickerson said. “Every day is a blessing for us,†So far, Danny has received about 40 letters. “I gave him to key to the P.O. box,†Nickerson said. “He was so excited when he opened it.†Nickerson said Danny loves Lego and Super Mario. “I wish Lego makes Super Mario toys,†Nickerson chuckled. “That would really make him happy.†Danny’s birthday is July 25. I'm in the middle of a brake job on a old friend's 335i. I showed him this thread, and we're both sending cards out.
BUMP For Rick Rum4 but most of all Danny. Everyone should buy a card or two for Danny this week. I have a soft spot in my heart sick children. (yes I have a heart) No child should ever have to be sick and suffer from cancer they should just have fun being a kid. Help Danny's wish come true and take 10-15 min out of your day and buy a card and mail it to bring a smile to this kids face.
My wife just informed me that our local ABC affiliate has posted this up on their Facebook page. She shared this cute picture of Danny sitting in one of three mail containers his Mom had in the back of their car. Seems the word has spread beyond ones imagination. Thought I'd share it with you all.....
Most of the folks in the Corporate Facilities/Real Estate Group for the largest manufacturer of flooring products in the world are sending out cards too.
Local NBC station reported the boy got more mail than the rest of the town combined......a FULL TRUCK..and a big one!!! Don't have a link yet, but was channel 7 news Boston(whdh).... Had mail from around the world...cards, boxes, you name it.
