I wish more people read it. Even some of the people responsible for running the country.

    From the US Chamber..

Today, we are honoring the fact that 227 years ago, the American Constitution was signed in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Here are 4 facts you might not know about the U.S. Constitution:

Etymologically speaking, constitution comes from the Latin word constitutionem which comes from the words constitutio and constituere that means “the act of settling, a settled condition, establish or appointâ€

Emblematic of the American penchant for efficiency, the Constitution as drafted by the Founding Fathers is “short and sweet,†and is the “oldest and shortest written Constitution of any major government in the world.â€

Nowhere in the 4,543 words does it mention the word democracy. Why? Because America was founded as a Constitutional Republic, not a democracy.

A key factor of a Constitutional Republic is its Constitution that designates how the government should be structured, creates a system of checks on its power and balance of power among the different branches, and most importantly, it clearly states restrictions and limits the power of government.

But let’s get back to celebrating! Today is Thanksgiving Day! Yes, “A proclamation by President George Washington and a congressional resolution established the first national Thanksgiving Day on November 26, 1789. The reason for the holiday was to give “thanks†for the new Constitution.â€

    2 bonus facts:

The Founding Fathers paid $30 (a little more than $700 today) to Jacob Shallus, a Pennsylvania General Assembly clerk to write out the Constitution on parchment.

Grammar check? There are many spelling errors throughout the Constitution but the most evident one is “Pensylvania†above the signer’s name.

When the Constitution was signed, the population of the United States was near four million people. Today, America is home to more than 318 million people. Regardless, even 227 years after ratification the ingenuity and the intellect behind this founding document continues to firmly inspire and guide the American people! Happy Constitution Day!

What I read was a pretty decent history post. Not a political rant.

There is no rant in my post above and no mention of a political party or movement.

The U.S. Bill of Rights can be found at the link. No need to fill a database with it again when the Bill of Rights Institute is so generous and share for all to read.
