I upgraded today, so I thought I'd warn everyone about a non-feature bundled with iOS 8. I drive a lot in my job, so I use Siri to call people. I use that feature a lot. In the good old days (yesterday and before), I'd say, "Call Nathan, mobile." Siri would reply, "Calling Nathan, mobile." and the phone would start ringing. Simple? Yep Effective? Yes, indeed. Useful? Hell yes. Fast forward to today. I say, "Call Nathan, mobile." Siri says, "Just to confirm-You'd like to call Nathan?" I said, "Yes" Siri says again, "Just to confirm-You'd like to call Nathan?" I replied, "What the hell do you think 'Call Nathan' means, you stupid B&*@# ?" Once you fight it long enough for it to relent, it'll finally say, "Calling one-three-three-five-five-five-nine-three-eight-one" :mad2: How is that an improvement? What sort of person spends the programming hours to turn a simple and handy voice command into a minute long verbal judo match? :mad5::mad5: Whoever signed off on this needs to be tarred, feathered, fired, and sent to the middle of Antarctica.
I was thinking about migrating from 7 to 8. Then I asked a client that I'm doing app testing for if they wanted me top update. Only if I want no work, they have to fix the app to work in 8. At this time, no update for me.
I just did my iPad. It is working fine. But I am not allowed to upgrade my company iPad. One of our mission critical apps is not compatible yet.
Ha! All us windows users welcome you to the madness of updates that are always somehow worse than the software they replaced! :cornut:
I use the "call xxxxx" feature a lot. Thanks for the heads-up. Hope enough people will voice their opinions to get it addressed.
Hah... You guyz on the bleeding edge of technology.... I have an Iphone 4S.... No Seriuos on it so I don't get nagged by her... Checking with software update.... Mine say's "Your software is up to date" iSO 7.1.2..... Hurmph...:arf:
I'll be staying with 7 because the 4 isn't on the list for 8. The best feature of iOS8 is the encryption Apple put in so they can't override your lock. It keeps them out of the government stealing your data fight.
I'm even further down the technology tree, I have a dumb phone, all it does is make phone calls......(and texts) but - it's $15/mo too!
My dumb phone doesn't even text. I was getting text advertising, so I turned off texting on it, problem solved!
The only issue I have with 8 so far is a bit more battery drain than before. I think it's related to the Health app, but haven't been able to totally narrow it down due to the fact that my access to Apple's service site has been restricted at work recently due to a phishing fiasco. I work for an Apple Authorized service provider, and someone jacked our access to the part's ordering system and tried to steal some phones. The idiot didn't change the shipping address though, so we got all of them shipped to us the next morning, and he got squat. But because of that, I have limited access to the professional diagnostics to figure out where my battery drain is coming from for a few days. Ugh. Also, I liked the iOS 7 camera roll system better than iOS 8's system. No issues with Siri though.
