Before I commit I'm looking for comments. Was thinking of running it in a VM to start. How to run Windows 10 on a virtual machine | The Download Blog - CNET Download.com
I've read fairly good things but haven't tried it myself. Looking forward to real world comments on the full release (which comes out 29 July, I think) since anyone with Win7 or 8/8.1 can get a free upgrade to 10. This is tempting since things I've read make it look like it may be a welcome improvement over 8/8.1.
Mr Softy knows that's what you think, too. This is why they offered a cheap "downgrade" to Win7 after the early Win8 backlash. It's also why they came out so quickly with 8.1 ... and then, nearly as quickly, the 8.1 "update". It's also why companies like HP have been offering Win7 machines, and still are! Stats I read just last week show less than half of computers running Windows are using 8/8.1, still! Unfortunately for me, I'm about to build a new PC and the only unused copy I have sitting around of current Win is 8.1. Thus my great interest in this free Win10 upgrade. :fingerscrossed:
My wife has been beta testing it for over a month now - she likes some of what they did but she's waiting for the full release to say for sure. Unlike others I have no issue with Win 8/8.1, it works fine for me...... seems unnecessarily fussy at times, but it works just fine once you figure out the ins and outs of it.
Been away for a spell, turn on the machine upon return this evening and there's this 'thing' on the task bar wanting me to download '10'. I don't want '10', I want what I know works and wish to be left alone. How do I make this icon go away? Grumpy old farts don't like things being re-arranged.
This article about how to reserve the free upgrade has a few lines about what to do if you change your mind before 29 July (the Win10 release date). I'll guess opting out up front is pretty much the same. How to reserve your free copy of Windows 10 - CNET
I just cover up the unwanted icon with a small piece of black gaffer tape.... Silver duct tape works also...:arf: I tried Scotch tape... Not so much...:frown2:
Thanks a million! Chewing gum kept falling off and getting tangled up in the mouse cord. Don't you just hate it when vendors slap their carp on the screen without a by-your-leave?
Friskie, try using this chewing gum.... [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QgXVVp3Yrvs"]Sticky, Sticky, Sticky Bubble Gum.mov - YouTube[/ame]
Maybe this one is slightly better...maybe. :smile5: At any rate, it's at least a bit more clear. Windows 10 arrives on July 29 | The Download Blog - CNET Download.com
What if I put my tinfoil hat on and say it is a Free Upgrade cause the NSA is paying for the upgrades...gotta make it simpler for the government to hack...they paid RSA to install bad crypto, why not Microsoft? They want us all to have a backdoor!!
This statement if serious renders you as technology stupid. Please sell your computer and remove yourself from the internet.
And heres the cure for Windows. Apple Ok sorry I have tried to not do that I just can't help myself.
Someone had to do it. Better you than me. :biggrin5: However, since Steve jobs died, I look at new Mac OS versions kinda' the same way Windoze users look at new versions -- or kinda' like I look at a new General Motors product. I do not want to be one of the first people to buy it (AKA; guinea pig). I've gotten to where I wait at least six months before I buy ANY new technology. CD
"I've gotten to where I wait at least six months before I buy ANY new technology. " So, you wait till it's obsolete before you buy it? :biggrin5:
