Holy Snikies this is one quick lap... Check out about 7:14 in when he hits the sweeper at 180+ [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5yKb6iSWc0k]YouTube - 2012 Corvette ZR1 Takes on Nurburgring‏[/ame]
What's cool is, I hope, is that it is a completely stock, off the showroom floor ZR1. Not like Ferrari that runs modified, "stock" cars  Actually they even said it's a tad heavier and slower because of the safety equipment they had to add.
It's a pre-production 2012 model that according to the narrative is stock except for added safety equipment required for ring testing. They did say it adds some weight. Also according to Wikipedia it is only bested by the 911 GT2 RS for real actual production cars one can buy off a showroom floor.
Having ridden in a Z06 I must say that looked brutal. It is amazing that the Vette and 911 are the fastest cars. All the "super cars" can't match them. And the 911 is pretty much a track only toy where the ZR1 is more of a straight line car.
So that is why that vette went by me yesterday like I was standing still. Seriously, I'm not even sure what color it was. Jim
Straight Line Car? Not sure I follow you considering they just demonstrated its ability to melt faces in the twisties. Since the C5, Corvettes have only gotten better. This iteration of the ZR1 is fast approaching legendary status imo. Priceerformance Ratio is off the charts. Can't believe that this car went around the Nordeschleife that fast in stock trim. Makes you wonder how many more seconds they'd shave with slicks and a proper setup.
Schnikies I think is the correct spelling. Think Chris Farley. Watch Tommy Boy: Holy Schnike Edition trailer (official trailer)
The tires are Pilot Sport Cup tires. Not many production cars come off the line with R-comps - exceptions include Porsche 911 Turbo, GT3 and GT2. That's the biggest difference between last year's ZR1 and this year's ZR1 - tires. It's gotta be the shoes...
