Nothing fancy here, just a place to put a Le Mans-related video you'd like to post if you can't find another thread you want to add it to.

I had no idea how small these cars were until I was able to actually stand next to one and then sqeeze myself into it.

If you watch the way things are handled after the accident, notice how none of the corner workers actually help Davidson for quite a while. It was learned later that he wasn't waving to signal that he was alright, he was asking for help. No one would touch the car because of the assumed danger of the possibly damaged hybrid system and potential for sudden battery discharge. I think I read that rather than being personally paranoid they were actually following orders and waiting for specifically trained people to get there...who took much too long given the driver might have needed rapid assistance after such an accident.

    ------------

edit: Had to replace the video, it was taken down, and added another version for good measure. Here's hoping at least one of them lasts a while.

Here's a YouTube channel with highlight videos from 1977 and 1980-2005. The 1977 is the shortest at about 25 minutes, the rest run from around 45 minutes to nearly 2 hours.

    GT1channel's channel - YouTube

    Here's a sample:

That Youtube above now covers 2006, 2007 and 2008 as well.

Like the sound of a race-tuned rotary engine screaming around the track? How about a 4-rotor Wankel 26B in a 1991 Le Mans 24H winning Mazda 787B?

This is Johnny Herbert, one of the winning drivers in '91, taking a lap around Le Mans in 2011 in celebration of the 20th anniversary of the win.

Makes me sad that the SpeedSource RX8's will be no more. You had to

hear them in person to really appreciate them!

    Here's a strange car.

The Howmet TX (Turbo eXperimental) wasn't the only attempt to race with a gas-powered turbine but I think it was the only one to run at Le Mans (1968).

Some good pics and lots of great info here. Here's a snip:
Engine run demo at the 2010 Spa Classic:

Cool onboard from the 2011 Spa Classic:

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x24c-7pJZeM]HOWMET TX IN BOARD Spa Classic Qualification - YouTube[/ame]

There's a lot of info here I'm sure but it's all in French. Still a lot of good looks, etc, if you hang in there.

Here's one you won't see often, the Porsche 935 Moby Dick. They only built one and it ran Le Mans in 1978. It was very fast but had problems and finished 8th. The next year Porsche dropped out of factory participation in racing so the Moby Dick went no further.

Not Le Mans itself, but Le Mans racers running another enduro. This one is the Nürburgring in 1983, the era of the Rothman's Porsche seen in the first video in this thread. In fact, the onboard camera lap is run with a camera mounted in one of them and then they lead the race from the start.

You'll want to skip straight to 1:30, trust me.

My hero car from my youth. I was a sports car nut when I was barely in school. The first non-fiction book I ever read was basically a biography of the 917.

I was wrong, the Howmet TX wasn't the only gas turbine car to run at Le Mans. It wasn't even the first!

The Rover-BRM ran first in 1963 and again in improved form in 1965. Like the DeltaWing in the 2012 Le Mans, the 1963 Rover-BRM ran as number 00, but in 1965 it was classed as a prototype and ran as a competitor.

Lots of info here, here and here for anyone interested. There's not much video avail.

I'm not a fan of tragedy but this is a bit of unfortunately important Le Mans history.
