My wife wants a new mini. Should we wait on the 2014 Cooper S or go with a 2013? We don't know a whole lot about Minis any suggestion?
Here's a little $ .02 worth of thought to get comments coming. (Be nice Dave!) In no way entering into a debate about the merits and demerits of different generations of MINI, after poor experiences with several different manufacturers, I'd never by a 1st year production vehicle again. Even Lexus finds and needs to fix bugs in new models. (I kept the repair file to prove it.) Our '13 Justa has been flawless in 14 months. Good luck and enjoy the wonderful world of MINI!
I have a few people here that just got back from the new F56 traing and got to spend 3-4 days driving and beating the heck out these new cars..All of them have come back and said that the NEW car is AWESOME...My service manager came back and said the NEW Base Cooper is funner to drive than the current JCW. I have yet to get to drive one or see it in person. The folks who have actually touched seen and driven the car say it is just as, if not nicer than the current model......Just thought I would share...I cant wait for them to arrive here I want to drive, touch ,smell and get to know the new model. Be sure to pick the car that is right for you....
I agree . . . almost every 1st production year car will have problems. While it can be annoying if it is far or time consuming the car is under warranty. It is often not a big deal for me to go fix things that couldn't come out perfect without the test of time and its learning. Generally speaking if you mind going to the dealer don't get a first year production car. If you appreciate the newness of product just take some risk. In both cases you'll never know if something totally wrong with the car is a costly reoccurring problem until a few years have past. I usual go for the newest model BUT am disciplined enough to wait a good year from the date a new model is released just to see if there is any of those major unknown problems that comes out. It's not always easy to decide . . .
I'm actually leaning towards the 13 because of the potential new model teething pains. Plus there is 0% financing available on the 13s. Thanks for the comments so far.
Just out of curiosity, what is it that is drawing you to MINI? With there being major design changes with the 2014, it might be in your best interest to spend some time comparing things like the interior to decide if there is one that appeals to you more.
Building your MINI is FUN!!! I built/ordered my MINI sight unseen for the soon to be released 2012 Coupe. The experience of building the car, pouring over every detail, then watching the production process was so much FUN!!! Just wanted to throw that in. Congrats on your upcoming purchase!
