    Hi all.
New to this forum and also new to Mini ownership.
Just got this 2005 S Convertible with just under 50k on it.
    What have I done?
Started wrenching cars back in 1954. Have never done anything like this, so much to learn. Wife and I will both be 75 in couple of months, bought the car for her. She loves it. So far we have had a few issues, some which I believe were caused by the previous people. Seems like they were trying to teach the battery how to swim. About 2 inches plus of water in the box. We hope it was because of a high pressure washer. No dampness on the material above, or anywhere else in the rear compartment.
A lot of other small issues that I hope we can work out. The Mini is basically very nice, Hot Orange with Black roof, black and beige interior done in soft leather. Six speed, too.
Anyway, just wanted to say hi.

Welcome to M/A! Great car, and especially since it is an R53! You'll get a lot of help here from the many R53 owners.

I don't want to get off on the wrong foot here and hope that we don't. But I was sure we had a R52! Being that it is a convertible. However I do understand that the basic rest of the MCS is the same as the R53. Thanks

Thanks for the welcome posts and the interest. We do not have a lot of pictures yet. The first day,(last tues.) 7-22-14, was mostly spend driving it, to see how it ran. Lin did most of the driving, we wanted to see how she would handle the 6 speed stick, she did real well. The last time she had driven a standard was over 54 years ago, a three speed column.
It has spend, since then in the barn, the weather has been a problem here.
The two pictures were taken in the parking lot, that the transporter dropped it.
Lin and Penelope (Penny), her new baby.

    They are both so cute.

    Thanks again,

MANUAL? MANUAL? Did you say Manual well I would like to commend you on your obvious good taste! Not only did you pick a first Gen MINI (the pick of the litter) but you also picket the proper transmission. I hope some of the others who will remain nameless (you know who you are)are paying attrition.:lol::devil:

Thanks for the pictures. It's a good looking MINI.

I too have a soft spot for CHILI RED. :biggrin5:

We understand what you are saying. It was a concern with us as well, as to weather these old bones would allow us to do it. So far so good. Our youngest girl (50ish) was hit as she was walking, some years back, by a Cadillac, has hip problems and had to trade a very nice standard for a early cvt hatch. To add to the problem, where she lives and works, there are stop lights every block for about five miles. We don't have that problem, and it makes a big difference. The roads here are real fun. I still have my Harley which we enjoyed here for the same reasons. We have however decided to sell it, because we are getting on in years and the bike can be a handful for me, with both of us on it. Main reason to move on to the Mini Convertible.
Even more fun and four wheels.

Welcome to MA, Lin and Dave. Sounds like a fun purchase! Without overstepping, perhaps we might look forward to some advice from YOU, as you seem to have a vast knowledge of the automobile as a whole? At any rate, welcome and looking forward to your thoughts.
