We are considering a 2015 or 16 Paceman. Presently renting a 2014 Clubman. Not pleased with the ergonomics of the window and climate controls. Travel cups get in the way of these controls.
I read that there are different interior configurations including "Rally, Classic, and Scene." Alas, I can find no info about these. Do these designations apply to the control setu?. Is there even a way to address these shortcomings? We love the way the rental handles, tho it's auto. We would only buy a stick. And, since we live in upstate NY, all wheel drive is preferred.
I am sure there are other things to consider, and would welcome any insight.

    Welcome to M\A.

I am sure others will be around to tell you about the new models.

I personally do not like them but to each their own.

Try out an all wheel drive (All 4) 2014 Countryman S or JCW. I think you'd like it.

    Welcome Aboard!

The controls, gages and dash layout are in the same for all of those. They are just styling choices.

Let us know what you get.

I would get a S or JCW. You will be happier with the extra power. Welcome to MA!

Welcome. Your money, but I would go for a really, really good Gen 1. With good winter tyres, my R50 handled the worst winter in NW Ohio in years. I commute 56 miles, one way, and never missed a day because the MINI couldn't take it. Just my 2 cents.

Personally, I think you should test drive everything. You know, for fun...and educational purposes...

Welcome to M/A. Many of us here drive the R53 and love them, even though they are Gen 1 cars.

Some of us have both Jeff... :)

The performance of the Countryman / Paceman is nowhere near what you can do with an R53, but they are still a blast to actually drive. For me, I wish they wouldnt have put the window switches on the door panels of the Countryman, but you will probably like it.

Just joined the board and the Mini world buy buying a Parman S. Coming from BMW's 1 series coupe "125, 135" my upgrade was naturally going to be the new M235, but when I went to check it up at the dealer, there was a white on black Paceman S sitting next to it. My initial impulse toward the M235 started strangely to diminish and I was more and more inclined toward the Mini to the point that I almost signed the papers without even test driving it. I had never driven a mini in my life not being inside one for God sake, how Am I going to buy this thing without testing it? I told that to my dealer and he handed me the keys and said: if you're 99 % convinced you want the Mini, when you come back from this test drive you'll be 120% sold:) I was sold, never looked back, one week now and I'm enchanted. Fascinating car.

Welcome, Glad you found us. We have been waiting for you to get here. I don't have a Paceman, but I hear what you are saying about the controls panel. However, that is a MINI thing. Well at least it used to be. From what I see in this photo the window toggles are just above the cup holders. Mine were that way as well.

Many of us correct this problem by purchasing the MINI travel tumbler. It is shorter and helps to reduce this issue.

So, there you have it. Buy the car you love, then get a shorter coffee cup.

No. There is a guy in Seattle now, who won't even let open water bottles in his car.
