Welcome, thanks for joining Motoring Alliance, the FUN and Friendly MINI Community. What year and model of MINI?
Welcome to M\A the FUN MINI site. If you give us more info like year, model and fuel (octane) you are using we could help more.
Having the same issue, 2007 Justy - 110,000 miles. Recently replaced MAS, Timming belt Tensioner, Waterpump, Friction Wheel, Friction device(forgot name). Have a code reader nt510 from foxwell. Coolent is new (BMW Blue). I have read up on this online, it is all over the board on it.
You sound like a person with experience with ODBII readers yet you don’t recomend one after your smart remark. The code is P2789, which I belive may be specific to the Mini’s not sure, this is my first go round with Mini’s and after readin all the issues with this citron/peugeot engine may be my last. Although they seem pretty easy to Mod and repair which is attractive. May just sell it and go back to my resto project.
That’s just Dave. What’s the year and model? Is it a R53, R56, R50, F56, etc? Which engine does it have? Countryman, Clubman, Coupe? S or Justa? Auto or Manual? Any details at all other than just a code will help. There’s been several major revisions to the body, engine, and pretty much everything else of MINIs, it helps if we know if we’re talking about a superchaged engine or a turbo engine, or an N14 or N18 etc. It’s best when asking questions to provide as much detail as you can, that way the right people know what to answer.
2007 Justy - 110,000 miles. Go a couple post up he also list what he has done so far. Our list of codes do not show it. I can check the Bentley manual when I get home Tuesday unless someone els can get to it before then.
There is a list of OBD2 fault codes here, but I can't find it since the update. I googled P2789 and found that it means, "Clutch "A" Adaptive Learning at Limit." This applies to dual clutch automatic transmissions. This wouldn't apply to a 2007 justa. Error code P2789 is not in the Bentley Manual either. Are you sure you wrote it down correctly? You need a BMW/MINI compatible OBD code reader, just Google that and you will find a few different code readers with that capability. Choose one that matches your price range. Anyone who has a MINI and likes to wrench on their own car should have one.
Thanks Dave! Here is a link to the codes but it does not have that code. https://www.motoringalliance.com/articles/ecu-codes-chart-2nd-generation-mini.57/
Cool thanks for the speedy replies! Dave sounds like he takes his stuff serious with a side of wth is wrong with you... 6- Speed, 2007 R56 1.6DOHC, my code reader is the lesser of two evils. Cost and Time. I have the mini/rolls/bmw code reader from fox something. The Car has nav unit and a message across the bottom states increased emissions but the only code faulting is the P2789. I had trouble finding it also, yes the Standard ODBII is something to do with a clutch but when I view the transmission codes for mini I thouhht they had a different letter than P before them. The car sounds like it has an exhust leak also. Oh well... thanks for trying.
My apologies - somehow I missed that post - Totally my fault on that and I accept full responsibility. Looking through what I have, I’m afraid I’m not going to be of much help. Though I am curious about the exhaust leak - the flex joint is a common issue, and it might be worth looking there if you haven’t already.
No worries, ya I am going to look there. After I do the Sway BaR Busings. Going going to replace the boot on the intake, it has a small crack on tbr collar underneath the clamp, then test fuel, then look at valve cover PCV, I just want the engine to run stable before I sell it. Maynr a trip yo the dealer would help but who knows. Night all gear heads!
Maybe a bad TCM? Did you check for low trans fluid? Also if it's a justa you don't have the N14 engine.
