Last September I bought a used MiniCooper. I have been having gearbox difficulties ever since I bought the car. Shifting gears in this car is difficult and requires slow determined gear changes or else the gearbox will lock up. How are three pedal Minis supposed to shift? Easily,Like a well maintained Porsche, Sort of easily like a 60's Mini Cooper with the Magic Wand type gear change. Mildly difficult like a like a Tatra 603 sedan or difficult like a Trabant. Inquiring mind wants to know
Welcome, thanks for joining Motoring Alliance, the FUN and Friendly MINI Community. Has the "lifetime" gear oil ever been changed?
Welcome to M/A! I'd get the tranny fluid changed. I did that with my '06 MCS at 100k and the car acts like new now.
Change the gear oil & fish around with a magnet to see how many magnetic fish you find. Check the shift cables as that could be the problem. Good luck & welcome to M/A
