Welcome, thanks for joining Motoring Alliance, the FUN and Friendly MINI Community.

Check the crank pulley. If original it could be splitting. Thats my idea to start.

Oh, and your battery, how old is the battery. MINIs hate low voltage, they get weird.

Nathan, i heard its not recommended to give someone a jump with your mini, is this related to the voltage you mention earlier?
Is there a heuristic i should follow or just straight up not do it? Also, what about using this jumper packs to jump your car in the event your battery dies?

I have jumped several cars with my Mini. With any modern car you can blow the voltage regulator. Just make sure your motor is turned off and you hook the cables up correctly. Try to use a ground that is away from the battery when able. I have seen a battery explode when some was trying to jump a car. That was fun!
All that being said all new cars Mini included have a lot of electronic parts, they do not like spikes in power.

You can jump MINIs, or give a jump from your MINI, if you do it correctly. OP, the first step is to get a scan on your car. Where are you located?
