I bought a 2005 mini S convertible a couple months ago. I'm a long time jeep guy but my jeep gets 14mpg and my wifes van 11mpg so we started looking for a better mpg run around car. We weren't looking for a sporty car, we weren't looking for a convertible. I've never owned a vehicle that could be considered sporty. I found this one on Craigs list priced half of blue book and scooped it up. It was more money than I planned to spend but I sold my motorcycle to make up the difference. The motorcycle was fun but the mini is a lot more fun. It was mechanically solid but very well used. I've spent the last couple months cleaning it up and fixing things. I've replaced lots of parts so far but my mod list is short. I put in a aluminium overflow tank and after marker tail lights. I'm looking forward to some performance mods and am planning to tear into it over the winter when I'm driving the jeep in the Michigan snow. Friday morning I'm taking one of my 4 daughters to run the tail of the dragon on Saturday and will come back on Sunday. Coming from Michigan it will be about 1500 miles round trip. I'm very excited for this trip.
Welcome to Motoring Alliance the onlyest MINI forum you'll ever need. Sounds like you have a great adventure planned.
Welcome to M/A... This will be your first time on the Dragon.... A place just perfect for bringing out the MINI's handling prowess... There is this thing about the Dragon.... Not everyone drives it as they should.... Some overdrive it.... The single best advice I can give you is to have fun and stay on your side of the yellow line.... You may meet some driving towards you that like your side of the yellow line better.... Not the best was to meet someone in that neck of the woods...
Man what a Debby downer :lol: but do be careful. Have fun and remember to come to Minis on the Dragon in the spring
Welcome to M/A! Nice car...just make sure you stay inside the yellow lines at ALL times. it's soooo easy to stray and that's when the bigtime problems occur. Be sure to watch out for the crotch rockets, as they stick to the center line. Have fun and BE SAFE!
Thanks for the tips. I'm going with my 12 yr old daughter and don't plan to drive it like it's a race track. We're also going to do the Cherohala Skyway, hoping for some good colors, and if the conditions are right we'll see a moonbow at Cumberland Falls. I didn't know it ahead of time but there is a mini run there this weekend, Mini's Slay the Sleeping Dragon. What I have planned doesn't line up with their schedule but I'm hoping to see them in passing.
