Hoping someone has had success resolving this issue - My 2011 MINI Cooper S is showing codes for the High-Pressure Fuel Pump and also for the water pump. My mechanic has told me he did some research and it seems that both of these issues should be covered under extended warranties. My MINI is currently at the dealer awaiting a diagnostics check ($165 if not under warranty...) and it may be tomorrow morning before they know what the problem is and whether or not covered by warranty. I am stressing BIG time because if not covered, it will be SO much $ to fix. And it's Christmas...so...yeah. I thought I'd make myself feel better by posting and maybe hearing from someone who's had success getting this fixed under warranty. Hopefully...?? So, if anyone out there has good news for me, I'm eagerly awaiting a response. Thanks in advance, Paige :fingerscrossed:
Better hope it's not the HPFP as they are "poke yur eyes out expensive" .... The manufacturer's extended warranty only applies to years 2007, 2008, 2009 and for 10 years or 120,000 miles... http://www.motoringalliance.com/forums/cooper-s/4059-r56-high-pressure-fuel-pump-warranty-extension.html You are much better off if it's the water pump.. it's between 2007 - 2011 http://dbmini.us/mini-recall-for-the-r5x-and-r60/
Here's hoping things go well for you and Welcome to Motoring Alliance the bestest MINI forum on the interweb !!
Due to some capitalist bs, the high pressure fuel pump (hpfp) went from a $335 part to a $1100 one overnight. To this day I cringe everytime I have to price one out for a customer. Best of luck with your MINI.
Time to trade that MINI since MINI is raising the cost of R56 parts through the roof. MINI PLAN build a crappy car, do the recalls, once it's out of warranty triple the cost of parts. Makes owners buy another POS MINI.
By the sales reports the plan is only half working as ex-owners are buying something other than a MINI.
Anyone who buys another mini after owning a r56 is no doubt a masochistic maniac. I mean, who doesn't want to get bent over buying overpriced parts for an unreliable pos while watching the value of the vehicle plummet at an astonishing rate...
My HPFP went out last year and it was covered but Bitsy Mae is a special case and is a 12' so I don't get the free coverage as the older POS's got. She was a dealer buy back due to fuel related issues, (previous owner had the HPFP replaced 3 times in 50k miles) and came with a 1 year deal if anything fuel related were to go wrong BMW would take care of it. From what the BM'r rep told me, the old version of the HPFP did fail at an alarming rate and the one that got installed in my car is the latest greatest version, so they say. No issues since (knocks on wood). Around the time they updated the HPFP the cost jumped up to a minimum of $900. I don't think it would be too difficult to change on your own, but I'm sure you'll need some sort of special tools to get the fuel lines off of the pump but I'm not sure. You can always contact MINI and see if they'll cover it. I bought an extended warranty from Route 66 since I knew these cars aren't the most reliable things on the road and I advise anyone buying a used MINI to do the same upon purchase.
They changed the design of the hpfp at some point? What did they change? Do they have different part numbers? Why do they suck so bad? Mines prolly gonna poop at some point running e85... I wonder what the ethanol does to it?
There's rubber components inside the hpfp or your just talking about lines etc? What are the components that fail within the pump?
I am not sure how many rubber parts are in the HPFP, but I do know BMW has lobbied agents adding more than 10% ethanol to fuels. They are concerned with what it will do to the fuel system. But I am a Gen 1 guy so what do I know. Although I guess I am a Gen 2 guy now too sense my wife has an R57.
When you change the designation from "daily driver" to "rarely driver", owning an r56 isn't too bad...
