I'm currently running 215/45X17 tires on my lowered (1.2") MINI. Thinking of going to 225/45 on my next tire change. Is there any problem with putting this size tire on 17X7 rims? Tire width to rim width is what I'm most concerned about. Thanks for any help!
I put on 225X45X17s on stock MINI rims (leftovers from the other car) and they work great! The GP is lower than the S, but I'm not sure what the difference is in spring height. The only issue is that they rub slightly on the front wheel wells under extreme cornering (like autoXing). Hopefully Nathan will chime in, I think he's got the lowest car here
I'm running 225/40/18's which if you check is just a shade larger in dia than the 225/45/17's. Odd thing is I had one set at this size that did not rub (Conti DSW's for the winter) however the same size Yokohama AD08's do rub. I spoke to Way and he mentioned his experience is diff tire mfg's measure that tire width at different points on the tread wall To answer you question though, almost if not all tire mfg's will give you the range of rim widths that a given sized tire can fit on
I tried it once with a Hoosier but that didn't wrok well, it rubbed. Then again thats on a 1st gen car and the 2nd have more room. Plus a Hoosier is a big tire for it's marked size.
