Yesterday I got Best MINI in show at the MITM car show!

However I didnt stick around for the award ceremony so I dont even know what the trophy looks like yet! I had to leave early because I had a headache that wouldn't quit, probably because there wasnt a single can of Java Monster in a 30 mile radius around Snowmass, and when you have an addiction well... I also didnt feel much like spending another night in the Rat, its not a comfortable place to sleep, or being stuck in I-70 traffic which normally turns the 4 hour drive into 6-7 hours because of all the campers wanting to idle home.

So later on when everyone else gets back, I will go pick up the Rat's first win!

Hopefully I can at least get a spot on the podium at the show on the 23rd... Wining best in show out of a small field of MINIs is one thing, getting a trophy placement out of a field of hundreds of mixed cars is going to be a challenge.

I'm working on my electric aux. cooling fan on my 70 and then draining the coolant to replace with water, coolant and a bit of wetter.

Replaced the turn/headlight stalk. No more hi-beam stuck on when using the turn signal.

It seems the bottom screw-holes of the column for the lower cover are stripped.
I'm guessing the dealer did that when they installed the alarm in 2003 before I
took delivery. Oh, well, it holds together pretty well just by the clips and rubber
    seal around the ignition switch.

edit: used a slightly larger #12 sheet metal screw in place of the machine screw,
    which worked out fine.

We drove Walter down to the State Fair for some fair food and to see Cheap Trick and Peter Frampton. What a great concert.

Cheap Trick still puts on a great show even though the guys are in their 60's. Also they can still sing. Unlike some of the other older bands.

Peter Frampton is amazing. You could see it on his face that he was just enjoying playing and hanging out with the crowed. He went non-stop for almost 2 hours. If you ever get the chance to see him do so you won't regret it.

Yes I also ate the donut bacon cheese burger and once was enough.

Had him hauled home, rolled him into the mortuary, and put him up on the slab to inspect the cadaver.

Locutus looks better than the 09 JCW who berm'd it at our MITM track event on Friday.

Sounds like you had a bad day, great you are OK and the MINI will get a new body transplant, I hope soon.

Sounds like you did similar fun and games with a drop off, then correction. Both MINIs did their jobs, great for MINIs, not so great for you and our guy from Friday.

Take care, i will watch the build for GPness 2.

    Don

I had a GREAT day Saturday. I walked away from one of the worst top-down incidents I've ever seen. Blessed. I can rebuild the car. Never thought I would feel that way if this happened... but near-death experiences tend to recalibrate things a bit.

It'll be the same car - Locutus - just doing a simple chassis swap. All the important stuff will be the same.

Holy cramp that's one screwed up Cab. Glad you're ok to laugh away the tears!

During my quest to buy the first MINI, I was convinced I wanted one of the Cabs. Some folks convinced me otherwise. Your particular experience included... Very sorry to see. I know you've put lots into that project.

I mounted the spare for the first time today. It's never been out from under the car. It's a good thing I checked its pressure once. It's been 18 months since the last time I bought a set of tires for the mini. Tire shopping begins tomorrow.

flat tire warning came on this morning. I pulled over and checked the tire pressures. Front left was down about 10 lbs. Couldn't find anything obvious wrong so I pulled out the compressor and filled it back up, reset the tire pressure monitor and continued to work with no apparent ill side effects. Checked the tires again and all looked well.

I was wondering why my car felt like it was pulling left a bit the last few weeks. It seems fine now.

Tried to polish my Forge coolant expansion tank. I got coolant on the tank when filling. It's like it has stained the tank. Bought Chemical Guys metal polish. Didn't do a thing to help.
