I wonder how many Minis have had the rat rod treatment? They're definitely the antithesis of the typical obsession to maintain originality.
If it's the one I'm thinking of I think we've had a few posts here and there on M/A. I'd love to see someone jump in with a "here's my project." We see rare threads by people going the other way, restoring classics, and many more doing modern mod projects on MINIs but I don't think we've seen even one rat rod Mini/MINI project or results thread here.
Yep, you must be talking about me... I am putting up a build thread on it later today, having one heck of a time getting the daily fixed right now though.
Now I know what you're building! For the life of me I was thinking what is a rat-rod? something you hit rats with?
Must be alum. If sheet metal surely they would have some rust spots just from handling them. I do like with the fenders but need to color match the rest.
Looks like your standard trailer fenders to me... I like the look better without them, but local laws in a lot of places don't.
That side sill definitely helps the look a bit... He still has to do something with those wheels though. Either go with a more vintage style, or make them look old.
Looks like the rusting is in progress on the fenders and running boards. Don't think those wheels are going to rust though without some help...
2 Years ago a guy in CO Springs was giving away (yes FREE) an R50 shell, that was totally gutted... Thoughts crossed my mind of going to pick it up, and do something like that!
meh...almost all of these are just a mini shell on some other frame with a v8 stuffed in it... show me something like Dick's R53... original body, original or other A series engine... show me something more interesting than what people do with RX-7's by stuffing a LS7 in them
