Had a R52 2006 45,000 miles Auto nearly 4 years now and waiting to swop for a JCW F57 Auto as soon as possible I have had a continual problem with it going into limp mode for no reason on and off since day one I have tried every option in and out of the garage, using premium petrol, new plugs, cables ,coil, last visit to BMW cost me £600.00 for a new throttlebody but still not fixed it, and still goes into limp mode they say there is no fault when I take it back if I turn the engine off for 10 minutes all the fault lights on the dash go out I have decided to part exchange it for the new car so that BMW can have it back and deal with it. Anyone else had this problem or any ideas what it could be.
Im sure you've had someone read the trouble codes. What did they point to? I had a limp mode issue a couple years back. I ended up replacing the MAF sensors. One was very corroded. No limp mode since.
No code shows thats the problem! However new convertible f57 revealed today so the clock is ticking before bmw get it back
Many shops have a odb2 reader that can leftbplugged in....it will record info...then you can take it out for a drive...even day or two... And let the limp mode happen .. The the data can be looked at. No reason to go nuts...pretty simple way to find out the issue, THEN it can be fixed. Just have to find a shhop that is...er.....slightly more modern!!
A $5 ELM327 OBDII bluetooth transmitter and a free Torque Android app is all it takes to log stuff (in addition to getting some cool displays for things your dash won't show you). I run a wired ScanGauge 2 in my truck and the wireless android app in the Mini at all times. No code escapes me. Most of the time codes are bogus, but limp mode inducing codes usually are more serious. I don't think a car will go into limp mode without throwing codes.
