    At the last pit stop Ricky got out & Max got in due to Ricky being bothered by fumes in the cockpit. After the checker Max pulled over & opened the door. I'd say the fumes got to him even more than Ricky.

    Outstanding Race Weekend at Daytona

    It was a most enjoyable weekend of racing at the IMSA BMW 200 Continental and Rolex 24 hours. So many aspects of being at the race track were enjoyable and there is much to discuss. A few things I found interesting included:

    MINI Corral and Hospitality Patio - Some of the early arrivals Friday morning at the MINI Corral above. The parking was right next to the tram stop and Fan Injector (DIS term for enhanced entry to the grandstands.) The MINI Hospitality Patio was a great spot to see the race, meet people, grab some food/drink. The hospitality provided by MINI USA made the weekend and race experience greatly improved.

    MINIs on the Race Track - The MINIs were fast, qualifying on the front row and all 3 cars placing in the top half. The race story was not as positive as some bumper car activity put a couple of the MINIs back in the field. The team feels positive about their progress and is looking forward to Sebring. (This photo was taken from the grandstand area above the MINI Patio.)

    New and Improved Daytona International Speedway - $400 million in improvement to the fan areas of the track moved the Speedway into a new class of racing entertainment. The fan facilities are first class.

    Ford Performance - That is the term that Ford promoted and while they had some fast cars, the results in the 24 Hours were not up to their expectations. A Mustang did win the GS class on Friday, so they can claim a victory. Ford did have a big presence at the race - a Ford Corral, Ford Patio, and large Ford display in the infield. I must thank Ford for their give-away-promotional item, an external battery for electronic devices. After keeping up with timing and scoring on my phone, the battery would not last a whole day.

    DeltaWing - The Not Normal car in the prototype class led in the early stages of the race with Katherine Legge at the wheel. Her co-driver managed to stuff it into a spun car when yellow flags and lights were displayed. The car looked quick on the track.

    New Cars Winning - Honda the overall victor!! Wish I had some money on that outcome in Vegas. The Roar practice session did show some different cars running with good speed. A Lamborghini was leading the GTD class until it ran out of fuel with 2 laps remaining. Then, an Audi took top honors. Some different faces and cars on the winners' podium.

    Angelelli parked the car right after the finish and made no attempt to exit the car. After a few track workers came to the car, they called for back up and two Porsche Cayennes, which often carry MDs, arrived. The ambulance pulled out a stretcher to remove him.

    Do hope to hear good news soon.

    Right, and though I first thought Taylor was complaining about fuel fumes I now assume it was exhaust...right?

    I'm not a big fan of the new Mini but in race trim they do look pretty good and fast.

    Looks like Mike Shank Racing was having a good race until the engine let go.
    Being that the other Honda powered car won it might mean good thanks for MSR this year.

    MSR is supposed to run that Daytona winning car at Le Mans this year. :Thumbsup:

    FYI, the Continental race won't be uploaded for web access until some time after it is broadcast (13 Feb, 8:30am Eastern on FS1).

    I was glad the Ford's showed a good turn of speed out of the box. With time the reliability will come. I'd love to see the Ford GT & Z06R fight for wins.

    Apparently the Taylor car broke an exhaust manifold and it was exhaust that sent Angelelli to the hospital, etc. He's back home in Italy.

    Glad Max is OK. He's one tough guy to be able to do a competitive stint while sucking in exhaust.

    Lamborghini Huracan had a great inaugural showing - just ran out of gas in the last minutes!
