The eggcrate grill on my Cooper S is hard to clean thoroughly. The slatted grill on a Justa Cooper looks like it would be easy to keep clean. Are these grills interchangeable?
The S and Cooper grills are different parts so they don't have the same part number, that doesn't tell me if they are interchangeable.
By doing a little creative sleuthing... The chrome hood trim P/N 51132751040 fits both R56 Cooper and S models. So that means the front hood clearances are OK. Then the real clincher is the Aero package showing fitment to both Cooper and "S" grills... Soooo.... Based on that.... I'm gonna say they are interchangeable.... Probably...
The top, bigger one should fit. The lower one I think depends on if you have the "Aero" style grill, as the location/attachment points are different. This is based on me researching the opposite swap. The black mesh "Aero" style upper grill is a straight swap for my OE chrome grill, but the lower requires some work to make it fit. Thinking of buying the Aero grills for the Justa.
Funny you should ask. I always liked the look of the grills on the concept Coupe and Roadster so i bought one quite a while ago. I was waiting to get around to painting the slats red before putting it on. I went ahead and did so a few minutes ago to see if it would fit. Granted mines a 2015, so your mileage may vary...
For what it's worth. I tried it on the clubby as well. Everything lined up and the hood closed just fine.
I recently noticed that area between the upper slats is closed off. Only the space between the bottom two slats is open. Not sure how I missed that during the installation of it on both MINIs... I'm a little concerned that, as is, not enough air flow would reach the bloody hot engine and turbo. Fortunately I removed it shortly after doing a test fit. I'm now of the mind that it's not worth the effort to remove the material between the other slats and have to paint them.
When I had the one off my wife's Cooper clubster I took a drill to it & Swiss cheesed it. Lots of air goes through there now. I like the look of the Cooper grill.
