Yeah.... Compare the 50,000 mile tuneup bill between the two...:eek6: You can always add the motor sound to the Tesla.... It even comes with racin stickers.... https://youtu.be/CDafMzo4HO8
Don't tell that to Hap Sharp and Jim Hall who raced the Chaparral 2J Can-Am cars.... And there was a yuge sucking sound heard throughout the cornfields at Mid-Ohio one weekend.....
From what I remember it had a Kohler snowmobile engine running the sucker & a Chevy V8 for forward thrust. :arf:
Yep. Rockwell snowmobile motor which turned out to be the car's Achilles heel. The J cars were consistently quicker than anything else on the track, but the fan motor invariably failed. I never saw the 2J in person, but did see some of his earlier cars at VIR when I was a kid. Good pic from the archives, even though it is mislabeled.
I didn't know that sucker engine was the problem. I thought the problem was that it threw rocks out the back. Effectively sweeping the track & bombarding the cars following. An amazing piece of tech. Jim Hall & crew really were ahead of their time. http://www.roadandtrack.com/motorsports/a32350/jim-hall-chaparral-2j-history/
I'm rather surprised you actually drive a mINI. It has a pretty small carbon footprint. :biggrin5: CD
Apparently the Z06 owner insisted on a rolling start. Out of the hole is where electric motors excel. I was kind of surprised at how well the Tesla did, considering it's main advantage was reduced by the rolling start. CD
